Making Your Own Certificates

Good Morning Everyone! I am a brand new Notary in Oregon and have a question about certificates. Does anyone out there make their own and is this ok? Thank you so much for any help you can provide.

Make your own. Make sure the wording complies to your state and that they look good.

However, paper + ink may not be worth it in the long run.

Thank you Daniel, for your quick response. I prefer to make my own, I just wanted to see if anyone else out there does the same thing. Have a wonderful week!!

Since you mentioned you were a new Notary, please use the orange search button and find post 33325. Start with that post first. Then read the rest of the posts in that thread as there is a wealth of information and wisdom there.

Re: Making Your Own Certificates YES

Luckily Mich isn't picky about wording and in the 7 years I've been a mobile closer, I have only made my own less then 10 times. Usually as the "second" notary.

I just do them in microsoft word.

I make my own loose Certificates. I copy and paste from my manual and make the lines (the ones to write on ) bigger and add to the bottom the optional information.

This may be a little quirk in my state but I had a mortgage sent back because the cert was a different size paper than the body of the mortgage. Just something to make yourself aware of.

Had the same thing happen with a FL mortgage; it was caught by the TC. Luckily the mortgage had to be redrawn anyway and they wanted me to go back (on their dime) and have it signed again, so I didn't lose any money on that one.

I've since taken to carrying loose certificates in both letter and legal size - I don't care whether it's required or not, if I have to attach one it will be the same size as the rest of the pages in the document....
