I am prejudiceded against people who
come here illegally, break the law, litter, milk the social system (paid for by American citizens) and want all the goodies America has, and then dispise America and want us to become Mexican for their convienience. People like that are not like me. They happen to mostly be Mexican in my area, but if they were from some other country and behaving the same way, even Europeans (becuase I am white, everyone thinks it's "white" to be prejudiced, as if other colors are free from all prejudice), I would be just as upset. But we have been through this before on this forum and everyone gets upset with me for being so patriotic. I don't care what people look like, but do care how they behave. I want people to obey the laws, and respect our country. If they are here illegally, I want them to go home. I know speaking Spainish is not a cime, but I see a high correlation between Spanish-speaking neighborhoods and third-world behavior. We are marinating in it over here. When our family came from Denmark, we learned the language and did not ask for handouts. We became Americans. If you live in a Leave-it-to-Beaver (or Jeffersons) neighborhood, then of couse you just think I am prejudiced. I did not feel this way for the first 40 years of my life. Only when I see my country invaded and trashed did I change my mind.
This is too "political" for the work forum.
If you don't like me, you don't have to talk to me.

I would say that the correlation is more a problem of economics (or lack thereof). People of *poor* neighborhoods typically exhibit the element of third world behavior. JMO

Re: I sure feel like I live in Tiajuana.
I learned this 25 years ago. Rather than change the neighborhood I will change my place of residence. That's what I did 25 years ago. Maybe it is too late for you at this point in time since Northen CA is too expensive.
I got tired of people like the one you describe and started savings to move out.

We are thinking about buying an island.
And my husband does not want to be at the mercy of any banks, so were are going to have to pay cash for it. And since he decided to try his hand at the stock market, we have less cash to deal with.
So I am either going to have to invent something, write a hit song, or write a best selling, action packed, suspense novel about my adventures as a mobile notary.

CJ- I feel the same way...
I lived in Orange County most of my life and have seen the same exact things you have. Once when we were living in an apartment in Fullerton (mostly hispanic, but also whites), the first night we were there, I turned on the kitchen lights and roaches scattered, it was downright NASTY! Of course I called the manager right away and she told me that the the neighbors down stairs didn't like having the place fumigated. I didn't care, they fumigated the building 2 days later. Of course we were young and didn't have a lot of money, which is why we were living there, but you don't have to be dirty just because you're poor. Once I saw a child peeing in the planters, couldn't have been more than 4, with his parents watching. It was gross. I am not prejudiced, I have friends of many different backgrounds. It's about respect, and a lot of hispanics don't respect themselves. And its not just hispanics, there were white people there as well who didn't respect themselves or others. It is everywhere. There just happens to be a lot of hispanics in Southern California.

I think you all missed what you were seeing. Right away you assumed this was an illegal workers' job market. The point of the message was that with so many laid off from their white collar jobs, they are now standing in a designated spot like the migrant workers used to in order to get any kind of work.

Mamie: Bingo! Yes, the total intent was
hijacked into something else.
Many years ago Seattle was a company town: Boeing. They lost a huge contract, and people were bidding on jobs, in reverse. I'll do it for $15 hr., no, $14 and so on. The entire city was impacted. I was living here at the time, getting a divorce and wanted to go home. Got there, stayed 5 weeks, turned around and came back to Fl. If I hadn't had 2 kids, I could have stuck it out at my parents, but I just couldn't 'go home' w/2 kids, then die a slow death. 1970-71? I believe.

Sorry, not a racist in any way
But my experiences are what they are. My best friend is hispanic. I am friends with many hispanic people. I'm just talking about the experiences I had where I was living, including the white people who acted the same way. Who had no respect. That's what I was talking about.
