NREIS
I was scheduled to do a signing at 6p.m. this evening. When I called to confirm the app't with the bo's I was told that her contact told her that it would be handled over the web. I was totally confused because I was not familiar with this procedure. I called NREIS this a.m. and was informed that the signing was cancelled on Friday whick was the day I got the co. I was informed that thesigning was going to be done over the internet as a web enabled closing. I had not been informed that this was notary cancelled. If anyone else has had this experience, I would like to hear from you. BTW, my last closing for NREIS had a very small problem with the signing, (omitted initial) and they deducted my total fee.

I work regularly for NREIS and this is the first I've heard that they're using web closings. I know they don't pay the best (lower than my usual minimum), but I've never heard of them not paying on a mistake. They have a three-strike policy. Have you had any other notifications from them that there was a problem with your services? I think I would call the Recruiting Department & discuss the matter with them.

I have done many signings for NREIS with never an issue. It was one particular man in acct'g that docked me my entire fee. I did receive the check the next day, voided it and sent it back. I think there is some hanky-panky going on here and I am glad I voided the check. I have contacted scheduling and told them to remove me from their database. I work for too many TC's that are honest and forthright. I don't need National

In your first post you said they deducted your entire fee, but in this post you say you received a check for payment and destroyed the check instead of depositing the check for your fee. First, did they deduct anything for the error you said was made? If not, I don't understand your not accepting the payment. This is a very large company with a lot of employees, I run into clueless people in small organizations, but I don't write off an entire company because of a couple misunderstandings. When I've had an error occur with this company I give them a call and they straighten it out right away, I've been doing work for them for 7 years and was deducted once the first year I worked for them & it was my fault.

Jason Gold had called me concerning the error and said that they were deducting the fee because of the error. Either that or I would ;be removed from their database. The next day I received the check for my fee and called Jason. He said I had to send the check back to him. I voided the check and sent it back. I have never been called on an error before with NREIS. Concerning the closing for today I had to call National and found out from them that it had been cancelled. Then an hour later I get a call from the scheduler saying he wanted to go over some things on the docs and I told him the closing was cancelled. Just all very confusing and my primary concern is the web-enabled closing. All the bo has to do is sign and have notarized the Limited POA, overnight it back to National and then they set up a time for the closing online. This appears to me to be a very easy way to for the bo's to be ripped off. I checked with a TC that I do a lot of work for and they are checking to see how legal this is.

Since I have never heard of web-enabled closing, I think as having been a notary for 8 years I certainly have a right to know if they are legal.

It's legal, but stupid on the borrower's part. n/m

I was just asking to clear up my confusion on the post. I was reading more into it than what you posted, sorry. I don't blame you for dropping them.
Any borrower that would sign one of those Limited POA's deserves anything that happens to them, because they have given their authority over the property to a complete stranger. The company could actually show one set of docs on line and sign something totally different. Have people totally lost all sense of reason?

My fears here go even further. What about Identity Theft?? The TC that I mentioned is local here in the valley and I have never done a signing for them because they have their own notaries. My best friend works for them so I immediately called her to see if she would check it out. It appears no one in the agency knows anything about web-enabled closings. I think it's pretty scary.

Sorry I let that go too soon. Another TC that I do do business with says it is legal but they would never recommend it.

yes, good point. But I lost a signing the other day because a borrower insisted on an on- line closing. Lender wanted a notary (me) at the closing, but borrower won out. And there is one major company that is really pushing it right now. I am hearing dribs and drabs from borrowers now about it who declined on the web closing.
I have not heard anything about NREIS doing this type of closing

I recall doing a signing for one couple who refused to do a web-enabled signing even though the company requested it. They didn't want to give anyone POA for their loan and I certainly don't blame them. I don't remember who the assignment was with.

In my area, the highest they pay is $100.00 and I did it ONCE, and never again. Too many hoops to jump thru.

Re: now that I think about it....
NO. With electronic signing the bo's still need a notary there. With web-enabled closings, it is done over the internet.
