Notary fees.
Hi everyone,
I just wanted to get a feel for what is the average rate that we should charge for our notary services. Can we ask for more than just the notary fee of $10.00? Do we charge per document that we notarize or a certain fee for a package? If so, how do you set up your fees? What areas and categories you use?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Christopher

Re: Notary fees. I really don't understand this question....
Your fees should be based on your expenses plus a profit. You should charge the fees you decided would make your business work when you did your business plan: you did do one before you entered this business didn't you?

For California, you may charge up to $10 per signature notarized for each document. You can charge less than the $10 or nothing at all, but not more than $10. There are several exceptions where you cannot charge fees....check out page 19 of the Notary Public Handbook under "Fees".
If you are a mobile Notary, your travel fee will vary based on the distance, price of gas, and wear and tear on your vehicle - whatever it is worth to you to travel to the customer from point A to point B can determine the travel fee.

If you are printing a loan package plus borrower's copy, traveling to signer's location, supervising the signing of the entire package, notarizing where required, facilitating shipping the executed docs back to the client (using their FedEx or UPS account #) then you are doing much more than notarizing a few signatures and may charge accordingly for your other services, in addition to the notarizations you perform. I charge $XXX for overnight docs and add $25 for e-docs - all inclusive. But be mindful that business is painfully slow right now.

Don't forget that you are preforming a service! I love it when a company calls and tries to lowball you and then have the nerve to say " Well, it is only X amount of miles away from you." I'm sorry, but we charge the same whether its 5 miles away or 50 miles away. That is, if it is in our servicing area. Outside our coverage area we do charge an add'l "travel fee." Don't lowball yourself or the service you provide. Take that into concideration when you accept closings. Good luck!

first, link your name so that we can pm you..second,
do not underpay yourself. as Julie/IL has stated.
third, do a 'search' by clicking on the orange button BEFORE you post another word. Otherwise, you will be eaten alive for asking seemingly innocent questions.
but hey, good luck dude!

Don't need to link name to receive PM's
If you click on the post, and there is an option for "Private Reply", you can use that link to send a PM

I think you need to be more specific. Are you asking about fees for loan signings, or fees for general mobile notary work?
