PLEASE Read...RE Collection from SOX
One of our parallel notaries has done some leg work for those of you that have outstanding invoices from SOX.
She has found a lawyer who wants to take on this problem. He is out of Chicago. He has asked for everyone and anyone who has been victimized by SOX to write to him at [e-mail address]. His telephone number is 312-427-4000. Unless you do this, he cannot help. His name is Bryan Kolton.
Good Luck and keep us posted. A few notaries have already contacted him!

I am not owed anything but had a terrible experience 2 1/2 years ago. Does he want "past" experiences also? I'd be happy to share.

That's great! I suggest that you repost this over a period of at least a week so that those not on the forum daily can get the information and get in on this.

I'm working with Sox for the first tim and have signing scheduled for later today. What is their history, should I even do the signing? I knew something wasn't right with this company so I logged on this morning to see if anyone had worked with them...
They also low balled for email / esign document appointment for $80.00. They explained the signing was only 60 pages to print and of course it turns out to be over 120 pages + the esigning portion.

Please do yourself a favor and run away, as fast as you can. If you click on the orange search button and type in SOX, you will find hundreds of people that have not been paid.

Well I just contacted the borrower and was very honest and straight forward about the situation... explaining I will not be able to do the signing. I also sent the following email the the escrow officer:
Hi Jeff,
Unfortunately I will not be performing the xxxxxx signing for your client Sign on the X (SOX Signings). Originally, I didn't think to look up your vendor since this was the first time I had a chance to work with them. I have been previously stiffed thousands of dollars from other signing services in the past and should have looked up Sign on the X as a new potential client sooner. It turns out SOX signing company is notorious and has a long history for not paying notaries. They also have a F rating with Better Business Bureau. I apologize for putting the borrowers in the middle of this situation. At some point, notaries have to stand up to companies who continue to rip them off. You can look up many of the problems just by Googling Sign on the X or Sox signings.
Hopefully this is a small victory for notaries across the country who have been ripped off by this company.

I like that you sent this email to the EO since they are
responsible for who gets the signings done. Perhaps they will rethink their process and eliminate SOX from their chain, thereby helping to eliminate SOX from the scene totally, which they deserve, IMO.

Why didn't you check out SOX history immediately after you accepted the signing? You did not have to accept an $80 esign/edoc....no one can take advantage of you without your permission. It doesn't matter what their explanation was/is. You should have a fee schedule and if any SS doesn't meet "your" fee, decline the job.
I doubt you'll even get the $80. Expect to work for free. I would call SOX immediately and give them back the job, and I would tell them why - "You are listed on all the notary forums as not paying your notaries" then before they can come up with lies to defend themselves, just hang up.

If you decide to complete the signing send the docs back C.O.D. No money, no docs.

Re: Bad Advice
I disagree with Michell sending the docs COD is not a good idea for several reasons 1st they don't get sent back to SOX they get sent to the tiltle company. There has been enough information given on this company to let you know to bail out all together. Once you complete a signing you are responsible for the docs being returned and holding them hostage could open you up for more than it's worth. I think your email was the best way to go without compromising your integrety
