Sony Camera Recall DSC-F717

I have the above-referenced EXXXXPENSIVE (in 2004) Sony camera and it stopped working identically to the problems described in the link below.

I finally got around to thinking about having it fixed and found out there is a recall on the CCD chip...whatever that is.

Hooray. I won't have to pay $211 or more to send it in. Just thought I'd share in case someone else has the problem.

It's what makes the image - that's where all those mega pixels live...

Thank you, Mike. I didn't know.

I was so mourning the loss of this camera. $$$ to get it fixed.

It's like a double bonus with the small rebate from the IRS coming. Smile

The repair charges for these things usually means it's cheaper to buy a new one... Good thing you found that recall notice - free is always better.

Exactly right Mike: CCD=Charge Coupled Device

and its the imaging chip that creates a digital output from an optical image.
