Using yellow highlighter
Will using yellow highlighter to mark where to sign or initial acceptable to most lenders and TO's?

If they do it fine, if not DON'T! You never know who it's acceptable to...

I have done some closing where the lender/TC had used yellow highlighter - except on the DOT. Apparently, some recorders won't record DOT with highlighter markings. Also, 90% of the time the lender/TC missed some signature lines.

You'll get into a habit of looking at every document for the signature line.
I suggest if you are new to this and nervous about missing a line you get a box of paper clips and put them on the page requiring signatures. Place them on the outside right hand side of the page in the area where the signature appears. They are cheaper than "Sign Here" tabs. Remove them before you return them.

I was advised early on in my signing career NO HIGHLIGHTERS. There are some good suggestions here about using paper clips, etc. Everyone has to develop their own system.

I’ve seen signatures and type that was highlighted fade from the doc. If you ever do highlight do not mark over any type and don’t mark the signature line in such a way that the signature will have to go on top of a highlighted area.
Use only yellow. Blue, orange, green, pink, etc used over the type/signatures can work like a black marker and when copies are made (or you fax) the highlight can black out the type/signature. (yellow does not usually show up on a copy if it‘s not a cheap highlighter)
I don’t use them on my notary assignments because I know some companies have a problem with it. But when I’m sending docs out for sig’s I do use a yellow one and I just put little dots on the document.

I know when I did my first few signings I used signature flags (too costly) then I switched to colored paperclips. I had small and large clips in different colors and used them to represent different types of docs. Large blue clips were attached to everything I had to notarize and large red clips went on pages requiring spouse's sigs. Yellow clips were placed on pages requiring fax backs, etc. This meant that some pages had 3 clips on them (I would remove clips at the table until after the pages in each group had been signed and put them back on before moving on to the next page or set of pages). This really made it easy for me to keep things straight and record notarizations in my journal. The beauty of this is they can be used repeatedly. I'm sure you'll come up with your own system and soon you won't need to use markers at all! Sometimes there's too big of a rush to get to the appointment and you'll just have to print and drive! Worse yet -- work can be sooooo slow you won't need a system at all! Good luck!

I also was told not to use highlighter but I have had some packages that are overnighted to me already highlighted. When I first started out I bought those sticky arrows and went through the package placing those everywhere that needed signatures. After a few signings you get to know where they need to sign. I also penciled lightly on the back corner the order that the pages came in case they got out of order. I think I orly did that twice. It took forever especially having to erase all the numbers. When I was new it did give me confidence that I would not miss any signatures and keep the pages in the correct order.

The paper clip idea is great. I used the sticky arrows when I started out....and they are re-usable.

Re: Post It notes now makes
little narrow ones. They come in fluorescent colors too. I think they were like 2.00 for about 300 in all. I used to put them on the hubby's docs when he first started out.

Re: Post It notes now makes
I have used the small sticky notes, the little yellow ones. They are cheap and fit the bill.
