Wireless Internet Cards

Looking for advice or imput on wireless internet cards. I think these devices will have the same limitations as cell phones-I often have signings in remote areas where there is no cell phone connection. I see Verizon will give the the USB card but then they require a 2 year contract at a fixed rate. Any imput from present users would be appreciated. Thanks

**I think these devices will have the same limitations as cell phones**

You are correct.

I gave up my T-mobile card account because it was too slow and the signal wasn't strong enough in most places I needed it. In the middle of a big city like Houston, it worked great. However, on the back roads it was of little use to me. After two years I gave it up.

However, MargaretFL has found good luck with T-mobile wireless card.

I think it all depends on where you live and the area you will service.

My T-mobile cell phone reception is fine but it wasn't good enough to provide suitable internet access. It was $29.95 a month.

I choose the Verizon Wireless USB720 Modem. It has a small, compact design which can be installed on any compatible computer. I transfer between my desktop and laptop. I have been able to access using this modem in areas where I could not connect to wi-fi. Last weekend I took the modem to my mother's home who has an up to date computer, but dial up capability only(Juno). I took out my software(cd) installed in on her computer (a few minutes), connected my modem, which is just connecting a double USB connector and boy did that baby move.

I gave up in-home comcast wireless to become truly mobile.

I use my PDA...

Most PDA's and some smart phones can be used as a wireless modem. I pay an extra $15/month, but I hear there are ways to pirate it... even paying it's cheaper than a separate account.

I've used it on a Palm Treo and it worked fine, I now have a Blackberry (new toy) but haven't used it to connect my laptop yet.

One less gizmo, one less monthly bill, and I check my email right on the PDA (and browse most websites) so I don't have to get online out in the boonies as often as I would without it.
