Blackberry

Charles Ca, I went to that crackberry site, really informative. I was just reading about this thing with Verizon locking the GPS on certain devises. There were so many threads I had to stop reading. I haven't bought yet, still reading up on the Curve 8330, I think that I'll wait until at least early Sept. to see what if anything happens with the GPS thing. I see there was even a partion drawn up to Verizon about the fact that the GPS was locked and there is a fee to unlock it. I don't mind too much the fee but the $30 for the Internet has me wondering if I really need that part.

Re: Blackberry - Crackberry, glad you enjoyed the site

I agree with you about the fees. I had a hard time swallowing the Blackberry package from AT&T but finally bought it. I do business all over California and there are certain expectations from business clients in parts of California and one of the expectations is being technologically current. I found that more and more of my clients are doing business via the internet, by e-mail and expect service to be as connected (can you believe it my flyer delivery service has its field people connected). My package costs me about $50 a month. However the Blackberry can be used in lieu of a data card and connects by USB cable so it is really convenient. Like any other tool you need to analyze your useage and see what the value is to you. I found the utility to be worth it YMMV. Good luck!

I have the 8330 Curve thru Verizon

Very happy with it so far. I get service with it EVERYWHERE in the NYC region. It costs me $30.00/month for the unlimited email/web plan in addition to whatever plan I want for wireless minutes. I wouldn't be without it after using it for about five weeks.

I use the VZ Navigator GPS, which is OK, I can't say I'm wild about it. The BBerry does not support the latest VZ Nav software, which has a traffic warning system and a low price gasoline station finder, which would be pretty cool to have.

I'm totally unfamilair with this GPS Locking situation you describe. Care to elaborate or provide the URL?

Thanks!

JOTT

Anyone with a Blackberry should check out JOTT.com
There is still a free service but you would need to pay to use the extra Blackberry features.
I used this on my Blackberry for several months before it, the blackberry, died and now use it on my iPhone. Still a great tool but I miss being able to reply to an email using Jott.
The trade off is I can now easily add an appointment to my outlook calendar.
It is also great for setting reminders or "to-do's"
No I don't work for them I just think it is a great tool especially since my memory seems to be following my vision...

Re: I have the 8330 Curve thru Verizon

http://www.blackberrynews.com/2008/08/10/finally-os-45-for-cdma-8130-and-8330/

This regards the updated os that has been coming for a while. I can't seem to find the site I was looking at, about this partion(?) sent to Verizon. The jist being, people complaining about having to pay for the GPS and something about the locking and unlocking of the devise for other carriers. It was on a forum and soon as I find it, I'll get back.
