Faxes and the internet

I am paying $75.00 for fax line and internet. I have seen some comments about majic jack. Could someone PM me or post what to do to eliminate at least my fax line and how to fax back pages as needed to the companies. What works for you?
I tried to search this first. Any suggestions.
No, I am not a newbie. Thanks SO MUCH.

Thanks for asking this. I've had the same question. Is there a way I can use MagicJack to eliminate my land-line? I still need it for faxes. Can the MagicJack be tied into a USB port, or does it only work USB direct?

this was addressed in quite a few places but i believe last time was when I asked what you were using for you internet and phone lines. apparently the MJ does not support new fax lines.... but I have been scanning and sending PDF anyway and I have an older stand alone fax machine.

so far I am LOVING my mj..........PM me w/ any questions you don't want to post

Faxing through MJ is not easy

I've been using MJ now for 8 months and I love it. I use maxemail & my scanner for faxing and it works fine.

Does anyone know if you DO use the MJ, and have Verizon DSL, can you drop your landline phone entirely...in other words, will Verizon provide you a DSL line WITHOUT having and paying for a full land line? Also, what is the cost of the MJ? I see about $39.95 a year?
Thanks in advance!

Yes, Verizon should do DSL without a home phone line. I had a FIOS connection (higher than DSL) without a home line.

Good luck with that!

Re: MJ and Verison

I have verison and my MJ works great. Zee and I called eachothers MJ and they were as good as any land line. You cna not fax with a MJ. You can scan and email any fax backs. You just need to let the Scheduler know that is how you send your fax backs. I have never been told that would not work. I always call and let them know when I have emailed the fax back pkg. This year the MJ is $38 that included shipping. The MJ for next year is $20 for the whole year.

I use RingCentral and have been quite happy with it for several years YMMV!

This has been discussed before. My local phone co. offers fax capability for 1.75 a month. It gives you an enhanced # but rings thru your landline phone. You must have the bundle pkg. and that is a lot cheaper than anything else I have found. I can fax anywhere and all it costs is a flat fee of $1.75 per month.

Luana, who is your phone service provider? I have Verizon and I can get a "distinctive ring" line that piggybacks onto my regular land line. Your regular phone rings, but instead of one long ring it's two short rings. That lets you know that someone is calling on the distinctive ring line.

Many people use this for an inexpensive dedicated incoming fax line, but I just had it activated because I get such poor cell service in my home that I am forwarding all my cell calls to it (only while I'm at home) so I can actually receive a call that goes to my cell! Family members were telling me that they were calling my cell but it didn't even ring and went straight to VM due to the poor cell service here in the house. That's the kiss of death in this business - no telling how many calls I missed and in this poor business climate I cannot afford to miss even one call.

This distinctive ring line costs an extra $6.70 per month on Verizon (plus taxes) but the drawback is that if the regular phone line is in use, then the line will ring busy, unless you have call waiting in which case it will beep twice. If your only costs $1.75 per month that is a GREAT deal!

I have nTelos. When I called them I thought I needed a dedicated fax line. She said why pay the extra fee when you can get an enhanced ring and pay a lot less. Check with your local co and see what they have to say. I love mine. Cheap, Cheap, Cheap.

I don't have a land line though. I have my fax line and the internet. Does it take a long time to scan 25 docs and can you do that from the top of your machine or does it have to be laid on the glass? Thanks.

I have never tried scanning from my fax. I have a Canon canoscan that I use.
