Fees
I am fairly new at this. What would be the fair price of 4 signatures in the sale of a Mortuary? I know that most notaries get at least $200 for doing a loan signing.

Gary - are facilitating the full signing of all loan docs or are you just going in to 'do your thing?' I think CA allows $10 per signature, plus travel, but I don't know the particulars on this. Also, are you printing the docs? If so, you would want to charge reasonable fee for the printing. You need to give a bit more info for the proper answer.
Others from CA will respond w/more accuracy I'm sure.

Where are these notaries located because I want to move
there!!! Are you getting your information from a few years ago?

Hopefully you're not getting your information from the NNA. As was pointed out you need to give more information to get a complete answer. If it's just a notarization then you are not allowed to charge more than $10.00 per signature plus reasonable mileage charges. Anything beyond that you have to figure in your costs and profit margin for printing, etc if you are doing a typical loan signing.

I work for the mortuary being sold, so I was already here. The loan documents were already printed. All I did was notarized 4 signatures, 2 ack and 2 jurats.

In California, the maximum you collect is $40.00

In Idaho, the maximum you can charge is $2.00 per signature. It is a whole different story if you are not travelling to do the notarization. I believe most Notary Publics on this site are Mobile Notary Signing Agents, but I could be wrong.
Also, Idaho is notably CHEAP!

What is correct is that we are notaries first everything else falls behind that.

Question: "I work for the mortuary being sold, so I was already here. The loan documents were already printed. All I did was notarized 4 signatures, 2 ack and 2 jurats." Answer from a CA notary: " In California, the maximum you collect is $40.00"
WHAT??? You mean you can't charge for a full blown signing? What if it takes some time to do it? According to some folks in the thread starting at #257545 if it is going to "take to much time" and they are loan docs you should charge a full signing fee.

If all he is doing is to notarize then that is all he can charge, $10.00 per signature. If he is already working for the mortuary, that is probably all they want him to do, they may not feel comfortable having him know the particulars of their sale. Also if he is already working there the owners may feel that paying him for a notarization and/or a regular signing while he is being paid as an employee is unfair to them as the employers. In this case it looks like it's a matter of negotiation and doing what is right.

I agree 100%. That is why I referenced the other recent thread where others felt differently.
