How do I get into Fingerprinting?

How do I get into fingerprinting and what supplies do I need? I Googled it and got a mess of crytic results. I would like to get some kind of idea and/or training on what is required to offer this service. Anybody have any suggestions?

Re: How do I get into Fingerprinting? Depends!

Before I decided to get into fingerprinting I'd checkthe demand. I don't know what the prevalent requirements are for Maine. Topsham used to have an Air Force base so you chould check there. The US Department of Justice and its various branches now demand Livescan and Livescan machines are very expensive and certification is too. When I started out as a notary I was doing fingerprinting with the old ink tablet but that pretty much has gone the way of the Dodo. I had a couple of companies that used the old system but now no one will do background checks without Livescan and I wasn't about to go to the expense and time to take a chance on getting some business.

Here is a suggested procedure of purchasing livescan equipment from the State of Virginia and one of the best sets of intructions I've seen. I haven't foind it be practical for my business:
