I-9 Form

Does anyone know anything about this form and is it okay to notarize it? Someone called me to notarize it and said the other notary in town "wouldn't touch it".
It is for someone who is going to teach for an online school and the company wants this as a verification?
Thanks.

You can notarize most anything

There are times when out of state employers want the I-9 notarized. Just follow your state guidelines and ensure that (1) proper notary certificate is attached or preprinted and compliant with TN statutes, and (2) the person signing the document appears before you and is properly identified.

Many schools include a "notary form" with an I-9 that the notary completes showing their credentials. The 'form' typically includes a jurat.

Re: You can notarize most anything

As PAW said, it really depends on the wording of the form and whether it's an act a notary is allowed to do in your state.

If the form is asking for you to notarize a signature and perhaps administer an oath, you should have no trouble - just follow normal notary procedure.

If the form is asking you to certify that you checked their SS card and passport and that they appear to be true and genuine, I wouldn't touch that either. (Although given some of the PATRIOT Act forms I've seen, possibly this is allowed in certain states, but not mine!)
