I goofed.
I took a new job with a little lower than my normal fees just for today. I asked how big the packages are and they said "they vary"..... I get the email package and it is 196 pages!
Would you guys cancel the closing or just "bite the bullet" and not work for them again? Got the order 3 hours ago and the closing is in 2 hours. I am going to be losing money on this one! And no. I am not a newbie. Thanks. Company is: Consumer Title Services. Detroit Road. Westlake, Ohio Any news on them paying? I did a search on here. Nothing conclusive.

IMO, you priced it without concrete info. I would probably be a professional and Suck it Up, then make a note not to take more jobs from them, Or ask more questions next time..
Good Luck!

Consumer Title is owned by Platinum - look them up they do not pay - I wouldn't chance it. Search under Platinum

Just called them and told them I could not work for a company associated with Platinum since they don't pay. He told me "I can put you on the hud" but did not deny it was the same company! I told him I could not waste my time since I hadn't gotten paid from March from the other company. He was not happy but wasn't mean. He was especially unhappy when I told him I had researched him on my notary website and my friends were saying this company is a no pay. Thanks guys! Now I can stay home and catch up on paperwork!

I do not feel that it would be proper to cxl at this time.
My "incremental cost" of printing dox is about 1 1/2 cents per page. If a "normal pkg is 100 pp, when the additional cost of printing would be about $3 and a little extra time to print. The signing , of coulrse, may take a little longer. "they vary" is usually a truthful answer, absent actual knowledge by the caller. .

Consumer title services has been discussed recently
Some believe that it is owned/run by the same non-paying thief who operated Platinum.

Re: Consumer title services has been discussed recently
This is an example of what is wrong with this industry! We research companies to make sure they won't rip us off and all they have to do is change their name every so often to delibrately stick it to us! I, like other notaries here research companies that don't pay and have a list three pages long! I took a job for this joker under Consumer title after not finding anything on them. I guess I'll have to chase them around for my fees as well. It just pisses me off to no end that these buttheads can get away with changing the company name without paying off on their previous debts. To give everyone a warning on another company. Cornerstone title's rep Acclaro group is just as bad. I did a job (actually three) that I haven't been paid on. Don't take an assignment from them, especially from Matt Goodwin at Acclaro group. He won't pay you, return emails or phone calls once you provide the service for him. Pretty bad Matt is the company's COO and he does business this way!

It is owned by the same guy - he called me for an order recently and I recognised the voice - asked his name and yep it was him.

I can see from this thread that there may be other reasons you cancel out on this one. Regarding the size of document packages, these FHA loans that are coming through can be 175 pages or more. I got fees increased on 2 this week after the fact. This is business, if a situation like that occurs, call them & let them know you need x$$$ more for the size of the package. I don't agree with the comments about "sucking it up". You won't get what you don't ask for.

I ask when being hired what size the edoc package will be. Of course, if it's an SS hiring me, they won't know. (they don't usually even know if it's going to be a piggyback). I tell them that my fee $XX for edocs up to 100 pages and if it's a bigger package, I'll call to renegotiate.
I won't take the financial hit for a 175 page package.
And besides, most companies won't even pay my minimum fee these days (they prefer cheaper notaries) so it's really not even an issue.

I did ask up front. The lady told me that it would be coming from another title company and it was just the normal size. Nothing unusual. And I did call back when I discovered the 196 pages.. They said they would pay me $15.00 extra. Not good enough. But considering there are alot of notaries in my area taking alot less for closings they think everyone will.

As professionals, (we do expect to be treated as such) We should ask the questions that are important to us for Pricing and accepting an assignment, IMO.. we have that opportunity before accepting.. I guess signing companies could come in here and tell other signing companies that so-n-so accepted a Job then backed out at the last minute because they didnt like the fee they agreed to on the phone..?

I'm with you MW, if I quote a price and I DO ask if it's a large FHA pkg, sometime they don't know I quote my price and when it comes thru and it's huge I call back to increase my $$ and have never had a problem. Furthermore you all who are owed by Platinum I told the TC that I was going to report her to the insurance commissioner (doesn't matter if your on the hud or not) and got paid in a week. Don't take any crap off Daniel Mc Namara. cc Daniel on your email to the TC.
