I need to say
After my last somewhat caustic post I feel compelled to say this: There are many of our brothers and sisters (co-workers / related fields) that did NOT sign up for the risks we as the self-employed must live with. And very, very sadly they are not going to get that paycheck, that they earned, and that some desperately need, next week. My heart goes out to them. Truly. This is not a good time to be unemployed, especially with a Title/Lending background.
Yes, some of us will get burned (and have been burned) and none of us like it. No one wants to get cheated. But think about having the rug pulled out from under you as have most of them. Then thank your lucky stars you only have to eat one or two signings.
My friend that was RIF’d by Mercury last year, after 20 years, with not so much as a thank you, and started her own SS (because that’s what she knows) has gotten 50 calls these past two days from people wanting work. She’s small, and it’s slow for her too, so…
One the good side!!!!!!! All the sales reps that had jobs yesterday (and clients!!) but not today, are taking their clients to other Title Companies to place orders. (Thank GOD for sales people!!!) Looks like my friends business will actually pick up.(she would not take orders from ‘M’ related Co’s, something about a bad taste still in her mouth)
Then I see where some guy (moron) that was running a semi-govnernment lending company, and who's excellent knowledge, judjement, and expertise earnind him over a MILLION DOLLARS a month (PLUS benefits, and golden parachute (full pay retirement) Just put the company in the tubes, loosing BILLIONS, and we the taxpayers get to pick up the tab. Sickening!

Thanks for saying it. It has been on my mind & in my heart, also. It's not the end of the world if I lose a couple of hundred bucks (and I don't think I will). I've been thinking of the approx. 6,000 people affected by the Mercury shutdown. The gals I worked with at ART in Rocklin, CA are simply the best in the industry!
Your last paragraph tells yet another story of the insane greed that has taken over America. Enron was not an isolated incident. There are stories all over the place about these scams--no one is held accountable--and we end up paying for it. It is absolutely SICKENING!
