Jobs with the feds
Because things are slow, based on some other skills I have, I recently did what it takes to sign up as a contractor with the federal government. In looking at the jobs available, I noticed that HUD has a number of closing agent positions open in Alabama and Arizona. I didn't spend much time analyzing these positions as I'm not in those states, but they looked to me like they wanted a quote on a full package: abstractor/title/closing. If you were TC covering these states you could easily put the other elements together and provide the package. If you are an SA in these states you might be able to work out a deal with an abstractor and title company and put a proposal together that the feds would like. If you're interested in reading the solicitations, go to http://www.hud.gov and click on job ops.

Hi Rhonda,
Great minds think alike. I posted the same message you did about one month ago. Check out the responses. I couldn't get this HUD opportunity out of my head so I emailed the contact person. I told him that I wasn't prepared to quote on the entire project (due to the size and expertise of my company) but wanted ot know if I could bid on the the actual closing at the table (you know...the stuff we do all the time as signing agents). He told me no. However, they will post on the website the companies who are awarded this work. I'm going to solicit those companies (or that company). What an opportunity, right?! If you've been given the same opportunity in NY let me know. Perhaps with the both of us working at this thing we could get some business from it.

Thought I was sending a PM.
I hate when I do that!

HUD Requirement is......
Closing Agent has to be an employee of the title company (as per my daughter, who is an escrow officer, for the company who has the HUD contract in Phoenix).
