Laptop computers
I would also appreciate your opinions on what is the best quality laptop for the money. I need a lightweight laptop. I did a search under laptops but didn't come up with much.
Is there anyone out there who is a computer person who could tell me what is the best one for the best price? Thanks again!

I stick with HP.. check your local Costco - or even HP dotcom.. Even in Alaska, they sent me a new desktop (just last week ) and the shipping was Free too. I ordered it on Tues - I had it on Friday.

I have a Dell - built it at their website with XP
all the bells & whistles I wanted and needed - $1100.00 (but my understanding is Dell is no longer building any computers with XP - they're all Vista now)...if you don't mind Vista check them out..they were quick on shipping too and I got a free laser printer.
Just one hint if you go through Dell - go to their small business section - MUCH MUCH better service and tech support....we also bought two new desktops but through the personal side....those people are clueless! Stick to the business side..
Good Luck!!

Toshiba
Took a class over the summer at at University. The room was full of computer geeks. They rarely agreed on anything except for Toshiba's laptop. They likened it to a workhorse - very reliable. Also heard tech support was good, too.

I had bought an HP 1320 & then sold it. I found it was too complicated for my purposes. Someone had told me about a guy that sells "business" computers. I ended up buying an HP from him with XP Professional. As he said, in the retail world you can only get Vista & all the extra stuff that comes loaded on them. I don't know where you'relocated. I'm in southern VA and would be glad to give you his name (you can p/m me if you're interested). There is probably someone in your area doing the same thing. My issue in shopping retail was that I could only purchase w/Vista.

Toshiba all the way. HP makes great printers but laptops
are awful. My son's HP has been under a recall twice in less than a year. I will never buy an HP laptop again. My toshiba is and has been awesome. Will buy another one.

Re: Toshiba all the way. HP makes great printers but laptops
I traveled internationally for years and my main requirements for a notebook were weight and reliability. I've had several Toshiba's and I'm still using a several year old Portege. I won't have anything else.
