Well looks like he is finally going back to work next week. I'm still kind of leary about it because he keeps swelling up really bad. We shall see.

No Zee - I've been trying to find something else first - I've been sticking it out here - there just isn't any work in my area right now. My hubby did apply for disability after his accident due to some other medical problems but he was turned down last week so we shall see what happens if he can handle going back to work being on his feet all day. I need my job as a backup incase he can't work anymore and he needs medical insurance because he is on anti-rejection meds from a transplant 8 years ago. One of this meds runs about $2,000 a month w/o insurance.

Your husband should not give up on getting disability - most people are turned down on their first attempt. Many people are on disability that have less of a problem than your husband seems to have. Find a local group for people with disabilities...they should be able to help you navigate they system or to find a good disabilities attorney.
I was on disability for nine years with an injury from an auto accident. I was one of the lucky ones to get SS disability on the first try. If he does get disability and goes on Medicare, be sure to have him get a Medicare supplement or his expenses could be very high. Also, there can be a lot of out-of-pocket expense for drugs under Medicare Part D. Find out from your pharmacist what his cost would be based on the medicatons that he is taking.
He might decide to just keep on working!

I second what Lynn said.
My bro in law had to apply several times, go thru hoops and practically stand on his head to get approved. However once approved they gave him back-payments as well. Now he's off the payments but still gets medi-cal which is a big help, because with his condition, it's almost impossible to get insurance.

Re: I second what Lynn said.
what does one do though financially until you get the disability - I work for an attorney that handles disability and it takes forever - I could lose my house in the meantime - 17 months to wait for an appeal hearing is a long time. And trust me - it's just about 17 months when we get the calls from SSA to schedule the hearing. He is only 36 years old and my boss feels he doesn't have a chance because he is "trainable" they say to do another job.

Yea, that's the part that really stinks.
Although I don't think it took quite that long for my BIL. A little less that a year I think. Thats still a long time when you need money Now.I'm sorry you have to go thru this. One other thing, if this is the boss that doesn't treat you right, he may not be totally truthful with you either...

Re: I second what Lynn said.
Your husband may be "trainable", but, there are a lot of people with bad backs walking around on disability that could work at something.
