RE: Non-payment to notaries
Fortunately I have a policy that goes as follows: If I do not have a payment check with 29 days you can expect a call at 9 AM.
There is NO reason why a notary should not have their check in their hands by the 29th day from the closing. Period and No Excuses. I did my job now pay me.
For over two years now I have been selling Native American items as my Full-Time job. I am running a business which calls for immediate payment or you just do not get the merchandise. So now I have a whole different outlook on how notaries should be paid. Companies that hire a notary have the Luxury of no credit checks, no pre-payment (CC-Debit Card or at least Google Checkout. Just some stranger telling you that they will pay you for your services. HA! To bad but notaries are also going to have to set some Very Hard and Fast rules before they pull out of their driveway. If you do not pay or bounce a check to the notary expect to have repercussions. FTC, local DA's office, Online reporting of Deadbeats, call Title company and let them know the people that hired you Do Not Pay the notary.
In closing fellow notaries Follow-UP, Follow-UP on those invoices. Never be afraid to ask for your money.

Hi Teddy, lots of notaries don't know crap about business...
Look at the number of times I've gotten slammed because I had the temerity to suggest that they should have done a business plan. Wow, what a concept, a business plan. As some even suggested that business plans only apply to big companies. Anyway things are gong to change soon and many of the SS we see are going to be history, a lot already are. So are many notaries: going to be history that is. Those who are loft will have the opportunity to do something with their business and things should solidify. An additional problem is the ease of entry in becoming a notary but then the job is pretty simple: and then we see everyday that some just don't get it.
Glad to hear you are doing well, I see your offerings and they are very nice, I wish you the best of luck, today is supposed to be a particularly auspicious day according to Chinese philosophy: 8-8-08!

Hi Charles!
I agree with you 200%. My thinking is "Business is Business." If people approach their New Business without a Good Concrete Plan to run the business it's over before it's even started. Logic, it takes money to live and money to run a business. Ergo, you MUST collect each and every penny that is owed to you. There is no such thing as a "small amount" every penny counts. End of my lecture for the day. And back to work for me.
To you my friend Charles and to You All ! Happy and prosperous 08/08/08.

Excellent point, Teddog!!! Look at all the people selling on E-Bay. You buy something, you pay for it, or you don't get the item. You walk into a retailer, you select an item, and you pay for the item. You go to a grocery store, get your groceries and pay for them before you leave. You go to the gas station for gas and cigarettes, you pay before you pump the gas, and pay inside for your cigarettes. You eat in a restaurant, you pay for your meal before you leave the restaurant. YOU GO TO A NOTARY PUBLIC TO HAVE A DOCUMENT NOTARIZED, AND YOU PAY THE NOTARY FEE AFTER YOUR DOCUMENT IS NOTARIZED. Duh... It ain't rocket science...
