This call took the cake.
A few minutes ago a person called (with blocked caller id) and asked for the names and phone numbers of Notaries Public in a city ~70 miles from me. (The caller obviously knew I was a ways away from the city, and would be too expensive.) I am always happy to help, so I looked up the name of the Notary Rotary Premium Member closest to her (~7 miles away). Rather than saying "Thank you", the caller asked me to put together a list of Notaries in the city area and fax it!
My initial thought was "You're kidding, right? You want me to do research, create a document from the data, fax it to you, and then you're going to use _another Notary_?" Only good customer service and manners kept me from telling the caller what I thought.
How would you have handled the call? Please keep in mind that caller id was blocked (which I always find suspicious when people are calling just for information).

Ha! I would have said, "sorry, not in the office right now-
you caught me on my cellphone."
I've had those EXACT same kinds of calls. I don't do it.
I'm a meanie.

So all the times I called and you said this.
You just wanted to get rid of me. I'm totally bummed.

I'm trying to think of an answer for you (smart@$$) but everything clever I can think of sounds "kinkier" than it sounds funny so...I'll just say...
HA!

I just got the same phone (although I did not take it as far). I was asked for the name of a notary in said city and I told them they'd have to find that themselves (I was driving). What an odd request.

Did anyone ask that the caller identify themselves? Did you all get same call, I wonder. Could be some boob lurking or whatever here that sees you post, decides you can assist w/their database....
Not without pay! Sounds like a job! LOL

It's a conspiracy!
Someone is attempting to start up another notary board (and/or notary listing) and needs to find notaries to join up and of course pay membership fees.
Good luck trying to outdo NotRot! Ain't going to happen.

Look up notaries
I'll be happy to research the names of notaries in my vicinity, so long as I think they will be asked to perform ethical activities. I charge $75 per hour for research, minimum charge $18.75. The estimate for the first week of research is payable in advance.

I would have just directed her to this website and been done with it.

Perhaps they did
Search this website. I think you get timed out after so many looks at the data base if you aren't a member.

I personally would have told them they can kiss my grits. The nerve of some people.

Ah, the joys of advertising to the General Public...
The stories we could tell would fill a book... the college kid who wanted me to drive 3 hours each way....something about a Driver's License.... and when I referred him to a local bank, said he was going to call the SOS and report me because "I had to do this for the standard $5 fee".

Memory returning...Call the Governor, not SOS.
Tho' I must add that I've had some good calls, too. But the crazies are more memorable.
