To the Notary that accepted that $85 Edoc fee

today. SHAME ON YOU! You are the reason fees have dropped in this area! If you had declined, they may have called you with a better offer!

Or the one that accepted $75.00 for Reverse signing in Lodi tomorrow. I know everyone sets their own fees but come on.

I don't know if anyone else is experiencing, the reluctance of companies wanting to compensate for the increase travel fees. This last couple of weeks, I have experienced several companies just not willing to increase the fees to cover the travel expenses. They are always going to check and call you back, which they never do. 62 miles for $25, 40 miles for $15.00, one right after another. I did miss understand the agreed upon fee over the phone, it turned out to be 67 miles for $25 and I billed them the next day and they refused to pay the additional fee. My bad. The next day they called for the signing 62 miles away and the following day, a request for a signing 45 miles away. Thanks for letting me vent. Now the kicker, the reverse for $75, tomorrow afternoon, 45 miles away...NO WAY

"A bird in the hand beats two in the bush".

I think we should give the notary a break. $85 is on the low end, but it also depends on where you live, how hungry you are, etc. I took an $85 (overnight docs) on Monday, but Friday I took $150 fee for e docs. In July, I had 0 closings. A colleague of mine has not a closing since April. BTW, $85 feeds more mouths than $0.

Interesting idea Louisiana 33

I'm hoping not everyone thinks like that though. Rather than lower my fees with everything going up up and away I found part-time work. These crazy offers of $75/e-doc fee is totally unacceptable for me and should be for all others (IMHO). Lowering ones fees only makes it more difficult for everyone else. I have a competitor who charges (posted right on her profile) $75 for both e-docs AND ON. I can't and won't compete with that so she can have all the e-doc signings in the area. Another will travel up to 200 miles, e-docs, $175...this is a no brainer for me. And it's gonna get a whole lot worse before it begins to get better...if ever.

Re: Interesting idea Louisiana 33

I was only saying that there is more than one way to look at the situation. In my area, there is no way this could be my full time job. The most signings I have gotten in a month is about 15. I don't mean to ramble, but my point is that the notary who takes the lower fees may have his/her reasons for accepting a low fee that time and we should not judge so harshly. Also, one or two low paying fees should not "ruin" it for everyone else. And just because you take an $85 fee this time does not mean you will always take $85. Like I said, Friday was $150 (high for my area) and Monday was $85 (mid range for this area).

My primary profession is accounting. There are seasonal firms that charge much less than I do and I have been in business nine years and some of them have shut their doors after two or three seasons.
