Working for free

After all the complaints about companies not paying notaries for their services, don't you know that notaries work for free while supporting the SS or TC. Notaries invest in their business - copier, fax machine, phone, vehicle, gas, wear and tear on vehicle, headaches from traffic, headaches from waiting for docs and those being late and sometime even cancelled at the last minute when you just passed up another signing you could have handled, going into homes that my gosh you wonder how can they live like this or wow what is that smell or dang I just got these pants out of the cleaners now look at the dog/cat hair on them, borrowers saying that no one called them and said to have a check ready for you and then you have to drive to the convenient store while they run in to get a money order or cashiers check from the bank or finding that the docs had the name mis-spelled and having to sit longer because now the borrower has to line thru and correct the spelling yet your next appt is just in one hour and you still have to drive across town to make it in time.

Notaries be sure to add on to this as I know there are so many other notaries that enjoy going thru so much to work for free.

But remember notaries while you are supporting that SS or TC and they are receiving their weekly check you work for free.

I am not making "Light" of the issue but I am wondering

how many times you have been stiffed and other notaries? It seems that some people are having a lot of bad luck with this and I am not too sure why?

Because there are still those out there that just don't get

how to check the ratings in Signing Central.

I think they just stop at counting stars and never bother to review the ratings or the forum link associated with each company. It seems like every week or so somebody pops up with 'Has anybody ever worked for LIA?'. A recent poster got nailed by three different companies, two of which have terrible ratings that go back pretty far, yet obviously they never checked.

If I don't know the company off hand, I will accept the job. When I check them out and they turn out to be deadbeats, I'll call them back and politely turn down the job due to the issues they have with not paying notaries.

I think some people are busy with working, kids, and life and maybe dont read the boards as much..I never saw lenders first choice coming..when I come on to NR I see whats being talked about on the front page...guess I miss a lot..but I am busy with life..I do check out new hires now..take the signing then check but Ive been reamed pretty good by companies that paid me then didnt..lighten up people..with so many notaries out there trying to make a living its a little harder for the newer ones..we dont have long established clientelle..

Actually, it's not working for free, its working at a loss!

I'm lucky, as I've been paid by everyone except one company that owes me for 1 title search.

If you except low fees, then you are pretty much working for free, but when you accept closings from known deadbeats, then you are working at a loss. As you have all the above mentioned expenses, and you receive nothing in return, so your expenses are out of pocket. Then you lose even more, by having to waste your valuable time collecting money from the deadbeats.

I had been speaking with other notaries some in CA and Tx and we were just talking about how companies don't pay and I just had to vent on here. I have only been stiffed really bad by Certified Signing when they were in Texas last year and Cassondra filed bankruptcy, I lost alot there.

I was just actually defending notaries for alot of the stuff we go thru and put up with.
