.tif

I have received confirmation and document attachemnts twice this past week in a .tif format rather than pdf. When I click on "Download File>Find" the following appears:

Description: This document is a graphic image. Microsoft Paint which comes with Windows can open this file.

Software or information available at:
Adobe Photoshop
CorelDRAW
IrfanView32
LView Pro
Microsoft Digital Imaging Pro

When I called the companies to let them know that I couldn't open a tif file, one sent me the attachment in a pdf format and the other faxed the attachment, which was a confirmation.

I am curious if any others have had experience with a tif format for attachments.

I have never had this problem with a set of documents but I am familiar with the tif format because of K7, the efax service that I use. Irfanview is a wonderful program to open tif files.

IRFANVIEW

IRFANVIEW requires a fee to download; I don't think that I should have to pay a fee to download a certain format. A free TIF viewer, Brava Reader, didn't work.

That should be a free download, Lynn.

As far as windows viewer, I have it on all computers I work on except my laptop which came with the home version. I was surprised when I tried to search for it to give you the instructions on how to start it and found it wasn't already packaged on this little computer.

I use it constantly at work because banks and title companies do send tif files to me regularly.

If you go here: http://www.irfanview.com/

and select DOWNLOADS from the left hand column you may find an option you like better than the one I mention above.

Re: IRFANVIEW? I've always found it to be free...

Sometimes the Irfanview site is slow but there are mirror sites at tucows.com and cnet.com and I suspect others as well. Free, now there is a word to put a smile on my face Smile

My windows has a tif viewer. However, I used to use the free viewer that efax provides. Chances are, that's how they are receiving them - via efax - then sending them over to you.

Those darn art programs or picture programs can be a pain having to go through several print dialog boxes before you can print.

Thanks to you all for your help

I installed INFRANVIEWI and still couldn't open the tif attachment. I ended up sending the email with the .tif attachment, which came to my Yahoo address, to my other email address...which is Roadrunner...and was able to open it. My problem must have had to do with opening it as a Yahoo attachment.
