unrealistic title companies and signing services

Every time I complain about a TC or SS I get an e-mail from one of the companies I've complained about, complaining about my complaining. So here goes again.

1. The other day I got a call from a company that wanted me to go to the next town today with RESPA e-docs, the entire package of which needed to be faxed back, and they would pay me $100. I probably would have charged a little more, but decided to take it rather than argue. But when the confirmation came, the fine print indicated that the package needed to be returned on Saturday via UPS. Well, there are no UPS drop-off boxes in any of the towns around here and UPS doesn't pick up anywhere in this region (not just the county) on Saturdays nor is the UPS station in Lansing open on Saturdays. The only way that you can send a package via UPS on Saturdays is to drive to Ithaca to the UPS Store or to Staples before 2 pm. Ithaca is 25 miles RT. So I e-mailed the SS back that I would go to Ithaca after faxing back the docs for an extra $25. They refused and said they'd find someone else.

2. I got an e-mail from an SS asking me to drive 2 hours RT for a RESPA signing with e-docs for $65.

Now, in June I had a plumber come out. His fee to come out, just come out, was $80. What planet are these title companies and signing services on? I simply don't understand it.

Here's why

"I probably would have charged a little more, but decided to take it rather than argue"

Too many attitudes like this....and as long as people keep that attitude, along with "I had nothing else to do"...or "business is slow" - the true value of the work will never be honored.

Exactly

My fees are my fees. Unless you're a company that is regularly giving me a lot of work, I'm not going to even consider a discount.

I suggest that you change your username to something other than your real name, then companies won't know who is complaining. I also suggest that you include the two letters for your state as it is often helpful to know what state a NSA resides in to answer a question.
