Client Ratings
I think we're going to find ourselves very busy in the coming months....I had a call from a SS that is rated on this board, but I'd never worked with them before, and I was on the road most of the day with esignings and edocs....very little time spent in my office. I couldn't look up the company's rating on this board. Turns out, this morning when I researched, they aren't a bad company, but I had no previous experience. I couldn't accept it any way as I was already booked elsewhere.
When you get calls like this, do you ever ask "HOW MANY STARS HAS NR GIVEN YOU ON THIS BOARD"? before you say yea or nay. It was for a signing in a couple of hours from my existing appt, and I had no way to check, and very little time to stand on my head and print edocs at Kinko's to run to a signing that would have been sandwiched between two other edoc signings. How else would you screen them from the road? besides asking what their payment turnaround is?

It sounds to like you were far too busy to accept ‘another’ closing, and try and sandwich it between closings you had committed to. I think this is bad business, one should be able to give ones full attention to each closing, and allow a bit of extra time just in case the borrower have questions, or there is something amiss. If you can’t do the job properly, just say no….or if it’s a very good customer let them know about your time constraints, and see if the appointment can be moved a bit. if not suggest another notary in your area that you know to be competent. If I’m away from my computer, and not busy I accept the job, say send me a confirmation. Then when I get the confirmation, and it’s from some deadbeat, I call and cancel. Or if from someone unknown to me but with a ‘not so bad’ reputation I go ahead and give them a try.

If you can go to Kinkos to print docs, you can also use their internet access to check this board. No deadbeat company is going to tell you they're deadbeats, so questioning them is kind of useless. And if it means canceling the signing at the very last minute because you didn't discover their bad reputation until 30 minutes before the signing, oh well, that's the price they have to pay for being a crappy company. Sucks for the borrower, but I'm more concerned about my working for free than I am about the borrower having to reschedule.
I figure if a company is that bad, there are going to be multiple posts about them on this board. If there aren't any negative posts, I'll take that to mean that there's nothing that bad about them that should preclude me from taking work from them.
