Genuine Title LLC

No pay and Genuine Title does not answer their telephones or emails. I did a closing for Genuine Title on 11-12-2008. The only communication I ever had was with Konstantine Safir, Account Executive Manager for this company. The appointment confirmation and my fee were confirmed with Kosty. I did a follow up on my invoice a few weeks ago. He would not answer my emails so I began calling him and faxing my invoice. I kept getting voice mail and still no reply to my emails. I found his company profile on ActiveRain's website. Everyone in that company is listed with email addresses and phone numbers. There are apporximately 20 people llisted with Genuine Title LLC. I decided to fax my invoice to the president of this company Jay Zukerurg. I also left him numerous voice mails and he doen't respond either. I also sent an email and faxed my invoice to their lawyer listed on their site. No response from him either. What does that tell you about this company?
What a terrible injustice to Notaries who take pride in their work and profession. I thought it was illegal to notarize without collecting a fee?

Linked for future reference.

Apparently, by reading the other comments, you're not alone.

>>> I thought it was illegal to notarize without collecting a fee? <<<

Not necessarily. Notary fees are optional, typically with maximums set by the state. So it's not illegal not to charge someone for a notarization.

Are you sure? I thought I had that question on a test somewhere or in a classroom discussion. I know attorneys do not need to pay their secretaries for noatary work however, I thought we needed to charge a fee for notorial acts.

It's right in your handbook...

Pages 12 and 13 of the handbook that's on the state's website:

http://www.dos.state.pa.us/notaries/lib/notaries/01_become_a_notary/notary_public_new_04_with_cover1.pdf

It states:

"The fees for notaries public are set by the Secretary of the Commonwealth with the approval of the Attorney General.2 A notary public must not charge, attempt to charge or receive a notary public fee that is in excess of the fees fixed by the Secretary of the Commonwealth. A notary public must display their fees, separately stated, in a conspicuous place in the notary's place of business or provide them to any person utilizing the services of the notary upon request, which requirement shall not apply if the notary public waives the right to charge a fee."

Just like PAW said, there is a maximum fee... but you are not obligated to actually charge a fee for your services, nor charge the maximum amount. A lot of notaries make this mistake.

In CA, for example, you'd be amazed at the number of notaries who who insist that $10.00 is the mandated fee per signature. It's not... it's just the maximum fee.

Thank you and PAW for confirming that information.

Perhaps a call followed up by a faxed letter to the

state regulatory agency is in order...
