LandAmerica One Stop
LandAmerica One Stop did NOT file for bankruptcy. LandAmerica Financial Group, INC. did file. I confirmed this with their lawyer. (804)775-1000. Don't let One Stop tell you that they do not have to pay any fees for all those bad checks. I have sent One Stop a certified letter giving the 7 days to pay up on the bad check plus all the fees. After that I will be a the Mag. to file formal charges against One Stop.

I received a letter from the US Bankruptcy Court for E. Dist. of Va. that contradicts what their lawyer told you. Good luck with trying to collect.

I got the same letter. At the top the debtor reads LandAmerica Financial Group, INC. Not LandAmerica One Stop.

Rec'd new ck but not return ck fee.................
It will be interesting to see if this check clears or will I then be out $20 instead of $10. Maybe they are just going to keep reissuing checks until returned fees equal check amount and I give up. I am billing returned check fee but they told me on phone that management told them not to pay any bank fees. Is there any law that requires them to pay this cost?

I am assuming that there is because when someone bounces a check at a store they have to pay a fees to the store for their fees and their bank fees. File the charges LandAmerica One Stop has to pay the mag. fees all but $10.00.

When I owned my store I had to post my returned check policy in order to collect. I'm not sure how this works in a subcontractor arrangement but by not paying the fee they have reduced my income by $10 so I would think it has to be illegal.

I am not an attorney and this is my own opinion - but, I think, in most states, it a felony to knowingly issue a bad check - this is called FRAUD and committing fraud is a felony. I would file a complaint with the local authorities such as the prosecuting attorneys office.
