Yeah, that's Gam's MO. Slap him with a small claims action and he straightens up in a hurry.

Re: Is this Paul Gams company? There are a few Ss with same name
To recover $65?
It'll cost about $30 just to file a small claims case, plus serving the papers. Now granted, he should pay for it all... but if he has a habit of bouncing checks, I'd be talking to the County DA instead. Though not all DAs will file criminal charges for bouncing checks for professional service fees, if there are enough complaints it could (and does) happen.

Pacific Document services has a history of bounced checks,
and he always has an excuse. He did the same thing to me. Shorted the check $10, the check bounced, then sent a $10 check which bounced.... He did pay me in full but I learned a lesson about working for him... I am sympathetic that he is having such financial problems, but I don't work for companies that I have to chase for my hard earned money. Best of luck to you

Re: Pacific Document services has a history of bounced checks,
We should put pressure on these people so they have something in their record and at the end they will not be able to renew their commission since most SS owners are notaries.

Don't worry once he sees this, he'll be calling.
Back in August when the same thing happened, he called me on a comment I made.

company again that he would contact his attorney. Not scared...

Not quite sure why i am replying in this forum on such a personal note, but last week my ex-wife had a medical emergency, this is a person that i have three children with and as there father had to fly to Louisville, Ky. In the meantime we have a wire sent to us on a weekly basis, our business as most of you know is very good and our payments have been back to the previous 15 years, every 2 weeks, because i was not in the office we did not receive our weekly wire in a timely manner. For those of you that had any checks returned, which there were not a lot please call my office and like always it will be done in a timely manner. Sincerely, Paul Gambs

I have worked with Paul for 15+ yrs. He is a very upstanding man and in my eyes extremely honorable. I understand Paul had a family emergency and as a result a few checks bounced. As you know there are companies that are NO PAY companies. I can tell you that Paul did not wake up and say "I think today I will bounce checks" Paul always makes it right unlike companies that do not care. Cut the man some slack he is a good guy. Paul keep the deals coming...I love ya and I hope your ex-wife is okay.

Rhonda and Linda
Good to hear you've had good experiences with this company - but you should go look at the forum discussions for the past seven months (I didn't go back any farther) - he's been bouncing checks since May '08 and before - not so upstanding IMO...
This is not a personal opinion as I've never worked for the company or the person - just a statement based on posts made by others who have been burned in the past .... that being said, I certainly don't wish him any ill will and hope the family emergency is under control.

I am very sorry, Paul, that you are going through is extremely difficult time. I hope that your family will recover ok from this and everyone will be alright. You told me that your finances were in perfect order just two weeks ago and that is why you won't accommodate cashier's checks. I hope you will see now why I cannot risk doing business with you without guaranteed payment. Again, my thoughts are with you and your family. This has been a purely business decision. I hope you have a better and more prosperous 2009.

Re: Pacific Document services-Emergency?
This is not the first time he has bounced checks to notaries. I hope that the emergency that caused this round works out for everyone, if it is true. I will say that if a person does it one time it might be a mistake. This company has been doing it for months: Shorting the notary by a small amount and checks bouncing. He assured me that it was another company doing it, not him. He did call and make the checks good (BOTH OF THEM THAT BOUNCED: ONE FOR $10)... But unfortunately when it continues to happen, I believe that it has to be somewhat intentional. I will not work for a company that maybe my check is good, maybe not. I doubt that my mortgage or uitility company will call me upstanding if I continue to pay them in this way... Best of luck to you that are willing to take this risk with Pacific Document Services or any other company.

"Subject: Got that same message, see I told you he'd contact you. n/m Still can't figure out why you would have anything to say, never have worked for us, never will"
Thanks Paul for not hiring me and sending bad checks to me, I appreciate it. That gives me one less thing to worry about.

Re: Pacific Document services-Emergency?
That is exactly how I run my business. This is about business, not friendship or personal feelings. I need to be able to make a living and I work very hard to do that. As the phrase says, one time shame on them, second time shame on me. As a business I will not allow these things to happen more than one time. Although I am understanding about people's personal struggles, of which we all have, especially this year, I need to run my business and pay my bills as well. I understand errors happen, but, when it continues, there is a problem perhaps in the organization itself that needs to be worked on. Maybe he needs an accountant to just take care of notary payments so he can make sure that this doesn't happen again. This forum is here for notaries so we can help eachother and get necessary facts to help us make decisions. This is not a "witch hunt". Facts help us to make decisions. I need these facts myself and feel that other notaries do as well. I am sorry that Paul feels that we are attacking him. This is a business forum and that is what I use it for.

EVERY word I have said is 100% TRUE and I can prove it
I have the old emails from him regarding this mater for anyone that would like me to forward them. Further, from someone like Mr. Gambs, this attack means very little. His word is nothing to me. But my reputation means everything to me. I have the copies of the NSF checks (two of them) and his sob stories from that time. I also have the emails from other notaries that he has shorted their payments $10... He did that to me, and sent his shortage in a second NSF check. Come on? Accident? Emergency? Once or twice a mistake. Repeatedly lying and bouncing checks speaks to your character Mr. Gambs. Please don't call my cell phone again... Try paying notaries. I have the right to relay the truth of your operation methods to others and will continue to do so. Anyone who doubts what I am saying, simply send me an email and I can forward all the information. Never bounced a check with me but did short my check
I also have had a problem with Pacific Document Services. When he called recently, I first refused, due to the reports on this board. He offered a cashiers check so I decided to give him a chance, but said the cashier's check was not required as long as I was paid in 30 days. He hired me in October to complete a modification. It is a long story as I had to meet with the Borrower 3 times before she finally signed and documents had to be redrawn. I have in writing the agreed upon fees he would paid due to her cancellations and I only charged him for 2 of the 3 meetings, but he shorted me. I tried to contact him and have never received a response from him, only from his staff stating he would get back with me. We are not talking about much money here but I will not work for him again as he gave his word, in writing, and did not come through.

Re: Never bounced a check with me but did short my check
I had another same situation with him a few months ago. Did a few signings for him, check came shorted 10.00 dollars and then it bounced. But later he sent me another one and it was good. But it is not an isolated situation because it seems that other notaries are having the VERY SAME STORY! I have family deaths and very critical family situations and not because I have those type of things I stopped making my payments or started making rubber checks.
Last year my wife was pregnant and she had contraction for more than 48 hours, they came and then go I had a few signings scheduled in those days as soon as Escrow and other SSs knew I was having this type of problems with my wife, they all canceled! IN OTHER WORDS, they don't want to know your personal problems or troubles, THEY JUST WANT THE LOAN PACKAGES DONE!
In your situation Mr Gams you are a nice man probably, but we drop anything we are doing to do your loans on time, etc etc and we expect to get paid on time and with good checks, I also have 3 girls: 10, 7 and 16months.
PS: Paus does not owe me any money right now.

GREAT COMPANY TO WORK FOR
Paul anyone that as worked for you for any LENGHT of time knows that this is not your MO. It would be different if you left pepole out to dry, but you DON'T....you HONOR any miss haps that occur and to me that goes up and beyond, unlike companies that close thier doors and you never see a check and I know there are people out there that is has happen to. People are going to talk good or bad weed out the bad in 2009. Yes people read the board but there are good notaries that know you are not out to burn them and that we are human.....

I'm a straggler adding my 2 cents worth - I don't read the board often. I haven't done any business with Paul this year, but received plenty from him in prior years. I had 1 check bounce this year, but he replaced it with a cashiers check and covered the bank fee. My personal opinion is that Paul is worth taking a chance on. Not even the major title companies are a sure bet in this invironment - just look at LandAm - whoever thought they would go bankrupt? There are no sure bets anymore .... but there are some honorable folks out there and I feel Paul is one of them.
