Potential 'situation' on FedEx...what would you do?
Rec'd o/n pkg. with pre-printed stickyback barcoded return shipping label included. Got to looking at it....it has my name & address as the sender, the bank as the recipient, and it also says to BILL SENDER. I don't think I want to go there, but as there is NO account on this to use to complete a regular handwritten label.... other than blacking out my name & address, I don't have a clue...
Chase HELOC. Anyone seen this before? What did you do?

I'm not sure that blacking it out would matter - if it's an on-line generated shipping label, then FedEx already has your info connected to the label in their computer system. Of course I can't be positive, but since the bank generated the label with their account number, I would think they would be billed as "sender". But then again, what do I know?
I suppose you could call FedEx, ask them to look up the tracking number, and have them verify that you are not going to be billed for that shipment if you use the label.

Get and use these all the time, without changing. Never
had a problem or received a bill. If you "track" the AB # at FEDEX, you will note that it in the system. Would not worry about using it . If Chase isn't good for it, we all all in deep trouble.

Also - If you get a Fed Ex airbill from a drop-box......
You can simply put the recipient's address in both the sender and the receiver address areas and not put any account number on it at all.
Fed Ex will deliver it and charge the company whose info is on there.

Would NOT advise that in this case. Good chance you will get a call "Why isn't the pkg tracking???" Might become the last signing you do for them.

after completing the order, just e-mail the client w/the new tracking number

I also would not advise this unless it's an extreme circumstance, such as absolutely no shipping label or account number was provided, because I do believe there is a $10 charge added to the bill for not having an account number on there.

A computer generated label pays a bit less for the service; also it means that the entire transaction is w/o human intervention, ie, payroll.

I receive several like this a year. I toss the air bill and complete my own.
It's not so much an issue an longer because most docs aren't overnighted, but I routinely used to receive overnight packages with 'bill recipient' checked. Of course, I was the recipient - not the intended party, the title company.

Disagree with you on this one, Sue. If there is a delivery..
problem and you used the preprinted AB and timely put the pkg into the Fedex system, it is not your problem. If you make up your own, you could be blamed if FEDEX does not get it to the proper place on time.

I had asked a FedEx employee about this, and he said that it was generated on their account and they will be billed. That is fine IF they pay their bill, but if not, you will get the charge back.

Round about way to get an answer--why didn't you call them & ask?

I always call and ask for a Fedex/UPS account number, if not included, or with missing acct number. I won't ship package without Title/Lender shipping account number.
My rule is I never pay for shipping their docs, but they have changed/upgraded the Confirmation to include shipping costs, if I pay. I wait for the new Confirmation before shipping. However, I won't take chances now on paying for shipping now, in this lousy economy. They must provide me with account number, or I won't ship, period.
I have never seen (yet) where Title/Lender used "Bill Sender". This particular blog has taught me to check the Air Bill verrrrrryyyy carefully.
By the way, now I always drop the package at Fedex or Goin' Postal offices (never a drop box) and request "Drop Receipt". I had a situation once where DHL driver forgot to scan my package. She had a wreck earlier and spaced out my scan. I had to prove that I dropped the package. Fortunately, Goin' Postal had scanned the package. I had to submit proof of the drop, which I did. Then the late package was on DHL, where it should be.

Those are "return" labels - even though they say Bill Sender, the sender is the party that created the label (they sent the original package, and created a label for a return shipment).
They can't create one of those barcoded labels unless they have an account to bill to, so unless you provided them with YOUR account number, they have to use theirs. I was suspicious the first time I saw one of these, but someone here (PAW?) explained it to me, and it does actually work that way.
If you're really paranoid about it, you can always toss that label and create a handwritten one, but without their account number there may be a delivery delay - plus you MUST tell the client what the the new tracking number is (and possibly explain why you felt it necessary to toss their label...)

Re: Mike you are right......
When I had an office job, I would use Fed Ex online to create shipping labels. I could change the sender information to read anything I want. And as you said, to even create a label you must have an account.

Interesting, because the online site doesn't allow me to list the recipient as the sender. If the label is generated from my account, my name shows up as the sender. I bill, of course, to their account no.

When you create a shipping label AND a return label (returns are coded differently than the initial shipping label), the RETURN label will show the original recipient as the sender, and the original sender as the recipient. I don't know if FedEx Ship Manager (online or not) will allow you to change the "recipient" on the return label. I do know that there is a discount to the account holder for creating and using both initial and return shipping by FedEx when both labels are created during the same session. (I've not noticed if the return label shows 'bill sender', but I've never had my customer's billed for shipments that I've included return labels for. Nor have I been billed for shipments that I have received that included a return FedEx airbill.)
