Repeating a computer tip ......

Sometimes people think I am a computer geek. I am not that. What I am is a person who has had some kind of computer in my home for 30 years and have screwed up everything that could be screwed up and worked through it .... So with that in mind,

Whenever my family, friend or fellow notaries ask me about the problem they hare having, I have learned to ask the following question: "When was the last time you turned off your computer completely and turned it back on?" In this day and age of always being in a hurry, many people, including me, tend to let their computer sleep or hibernate so they don't have to wait for it to boot before using it. And sometimes they have never done a restart in weeks or accepted an update, whether it be Windows, Mac or Linux. All three operating systems need to have all current updates and all three operating systems tend to leave files resident in memory, sometimes have drivers "go to sleep" or have files drop out of memory during the course of using the computer that will take a shutdown to "clean out the drain". I say a complete shutdown as opposed to using the "restart" function, because the "restart" function does not power down the system completely, and some computers, depending on the design of the mother board, will not completely clear the RAM.

So before you curse, hit the computer with a hammer, plug and unplug your printers, unload and reload programs and printer drivers, try a hard re-bood, meaning turn it all the way off, then turn it back on. You many be surprised on what that simple task can fix ...

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all ..... Let 2009 be better than 2008. We all need that.

Same thing applies with your cell phone. I travel pretty far and sometimes when my cell phone is "dropping" calls, a quick fix is just to power it off for a couple minutes. Then when you turn it back on, it finds a closer tower and voila! better reception!

Turning the computer/printer/modem off and then on..

is the extent of my computer repair knowledge.
The good new, is it usually works to cure whatever ails them.

It works for the human CPU as well

8 hours of sleep usually cures most of my malfunctions as well (shut up, I said MOST).
