Should I do this?

I'm all ready to get into this business and become a mobile loan closer. I have been a mortgage broker and thought this would be a great extra income for me and my family. As I read through these posts I see that many are complaining that the business isnt there anymore, and they can't make a living.

Is anyone still doing well?

I know there are always people in every field that have a negitive outlook and I'm sure some of them might respond to this post. But I need to get all of your feed back on if I should move forward.

I live on the west coast of Florida - Lots of notarys - But I am willing to gat out and make sales calls on title companies, real estate attorneys and anyone else that could use my services.

ok let me have your thoughts!

Just don't expect to have a "great" extra income.
Local TC's are not hiring extra employees, or remote closers, as a matter of fact, several I know in Pinellas/Hillborough are working their employees from home, WHEN the work is there.
They are doing the closings from the office, or sending out their employees for remote closings.
I'm not being negative, just realistic, and from experience.
Many NSA's in your area are fighting for work, undercutting one another.
It's just not a good time to be in the business unless you already have the clientele, and
even if you do, it's still slow.

I could be wrong ( I was once before, but I divorced her) but I think all of the local TC's are giving their closings to their own employees as a profit retention move. The only calls I get are from out of state TCs so while I think your idea of soliciting local TCs for business might have some merit, I doubt it will get you any serious results. Lawyers all have their own in house Notaries, so that's probably a blank also. Hate to soung so negative, but the only people who are doing well are those that have been around a long time and have all their contacts solidly in hand. You advertise that you are or have been a broker, and that may do you as much harm as good with the TCs. I wish you success, but be assured you have your work cut out for you.

I was thinking the same thing about advertising that you are a Mortgage broker. This might cause you more harm then good. Spin it in a way that shows that you have experience but do not mention that you are a broker.

No, you shouldn't do this

Check back in 6 months and see if things have gotten any better. But right now it would pretty much be almost no compensation for the huge amount of time you would spend trying to get yourself established. Your time would be better used trying to figure out a different way to make extra income.

David
How long have you been a notary? As a signing service I look for experienced notaries.
I don't see you listed as a Florida notary with the SOS?

Also, are you still involved with United 1st Financial? (The Money Merge account)

And as everyone is saying this is slow for signing agents.

Linda, you just made my day. Again.
Thanks for all your wonderful sense of humor. All of us need more of that.

First of all, if you look at the HUD you will realize that it is the mortgage brokers who make the most money. We are at the end of the pipeline, and struggle to be paid a decent fee.
There is risk involved, and you will need to decide for yourself if it's for you. I don't know about "extra income", as many are struggling for any income at all. Good luck.

I would go to NR if you suspect a "copy-cat".

A plagerizer, for sure, but no competition

According to the state of FL he doesn't even hold a FL notary commission.

What a sleeez! Must be using "mortgage broker ethics", or the absolute lack thereof.
I was actually suspecting a "troll"--this is much worse!

You are so right Terri!

Also according to the NNA he is not a "Certified Signing Agent".

David, where did you get your certification from, and why aren't you listed with the Florida SOS as a notary????

Please do not reply to me via PM as you did last time to let me know you were still involved with Ufirst Financial. You did not respond to the notary question.
Reply openly on the forum please.

Ethics plays a big part in this business!!

You know what really amazes me about that

Why would someone in your same area do that? I mean, how utterly ridiculous does that look for both parties? I just busted someone three days ago who copied my website home page word for word (2nd time now that this has happened). They cover the exact same counties (I guess they copied that too). Of course, they haven't responded to my e-mail. I guess I've got to out them and tell their ISP about their copyright infringement.

At least David already took it down. Still, tacky, lazy, & unprofessional.

Two years ago I was doing very well, never mind that the business was beginning a downslide. I'm in Ohio between Cleveland and Columbus - a bit remote. I now measure success (or the opposite) in terms of calls missed or turned down. I missed / turned down only 8 last month. Nobody is calling.
