Spirit is Alive!

The spirit of Christmas is alive and well in our nation. Hallelujah!

Peace. Goodwill. Merry Christmas to all. I had the busiest week I've had in years this week, and it picks up again tomorrow. Windy, cold, blustery, the most dismal weather I can remember here on COLD MOUNTAIN in four years! But the hopes I have for next year are keeping me warm and optimistic. I broker friend of mine brought me a bottle of Moet Chandon champagne yesterday to celebrate the closing of a loan I brought to him, and we talked about the movement out there. Prices on REOs are low enough to stimulate people deciding to buy for the first time, and there are a lot of first time buyer products out there, not with the typical brick and mortar banks, though. The last loan I signed last night on Christmas Eve was a brother and a sister purchasing first time five bedroom home, low interest rate, but PMI for the first year, credit scores in the 800s, low DTI, long work history, educated.

I think things are starting to look up. Happy Holidays to one and all! Cheryl Elliott Nipomo, CA (wow, another downpour just began!)

Patricia, the image (photo) you present in your profile is the image companies will believe that you'll present to borrowers. The photo should be a professional one - business attire, not one of you in a spaghetti strap dress in nightclub. If you are seeking loan signing work - the deadbeat companies will call as they don't care what you wear as they have no intention of paying, but the good companies are unlikely to call you, with the image you present. First impressions are lasting ones. JMHO

Pat I am so sorry that you had to recieve that message in reply to your hearfelt Christmas greeting. I loved it and you are beautiful inside and out.
It was probably well intentioned but should have been a PM
Sender, do you have any idea how you are now perceived?
Do you spell your name Grinch? Do you look like hell in a spaghetti strap dress? Are you depressed by the holidays?

Nope, a lesson for ALL.

By YOU? I could care less.

Apparently, you don't understand what posting on a public forum means. Go and learn what it means.

Sigh, Flaming...and it's Christmas

Personally, and not that either of you care, it would have been nicer to send a PM. And if someone wants to give "a less for ALL", then wording that message as a general post that does not single out one individual would have been more considerate and caring. JMHO.

LKT, maybe you could explain your interpretation of what "posting on a public forum" means. I always interpreted it to mean one is polite, well-mannered, considerate, helpful, positive attitude, caring, honorable, honest, and...in the immortal words of Thumper in Disney's Bambi, "If you can't say somethin' nice, don't say nuttin' at all."

Thanks to all my extended family for your support and PMs.

Love that positive attitude, Cheryl - raises my spirits too

Peace and goodwill to you and to all my fellow Notaries from a finally-sunny-and-warm Tennessee. We've had rain, rain, rain, rain, and more rain nearly all month until yesterday and today. Wish I could bottle some of today's sunshine and send it to you, Cheryl.
Glad to hear the happy news. We had a wonderful Christmas, invited our neighbors on either side and an elderly lady friend for a big happy dinner of 11 people, and it was a real blast. I just have a good feeling about next year. Smile

Re: Love that positive attitude, Cheryl - raises my spirits too

Finally quit raining but cold winds blowing like hell. Let's hope and pray for a great 2009. I'm also hoping that as a community we can help each other be strong and effective to pursue the new mortgage business. Let's not publicly humiliate and bash our fellow notaries on this or any other forum. I too, think a PM would have been more appropriate rather than to single out a member of our board for public embarrassment, just not my style to put someone in the limelight like this for all to view, I deem this kind of posting highly inappropriate. Do unto others....treat others as you would like to be treated.

In answer to my critics......

First off, no one has EVER seen me post anything with the intention of berating or humiliating someone - EVER. With that being said, my original post was in response to Patricia's profile comment, and I quote "Actively seeking loan and loan modification signings. Efficient, professional,......."

I made no descriptive statements regarding HOW Patricia looked. The comparison was ***business attire vs. casual attire***, therefore, there was nothing humiliating, condescending, or belittling in my words. A polished, PROFESSIONAL appearance is paramount in this profession as we represent the lender/TC to the borrower.

Posting in a public forum means (for someone who asked) that you *volunteer* to be responded to when you post and make your profile visible. I responded decently and diplomatically - again, I did not use even ONE harsh word and made no reference to HOW she looked. Your gripe is really that I said this on Christmas. Nothing inappropriate about my post.

Re: In answer to my critics......

You weren't responding to the comments in the post. Patricia's attire didn't even come up in her post, she never asked for critique of what she was wearing in her profile.

A PM would have been much kinder.

Wouldn't matter when you responded, Christmas, Easter, Hanukkah or whatever.

Just because Patricia has a photo of her out enjoying herself doesn't mean companies will expect her to dress the same way on a signing. There is one member who has a photo of her as an American Gladiator in her profile. I am sure companies don't expect her to show up the same way.

You may not have had the intention of berating or humiliating Patricia, but that is how your post came across.

My profile photo is not in "business attire", but when I was doing signings I was always inundated with calls. And I always dressed professionally when I went to borrowers homes.

All of you critics have totally missed the message because you're so wrapped up in my comments about the photo. If you read my original post AT ALL, you would see that I was actually responding to what was WRITTEN in her profile. The photo was tied to it. I SAID <paraphrasing> "...if you are looking for loan signing work" in response to the statement she wrote about "looking for loan signing and modification work".

<<<You may not have had the intention of berating or humiliating Patricia, but that is how your post came across. >>>

Oh, how terrible and insensitive of me to suggest to a fellow notary that a professional photo image will not only make a better first impression to hire entities but would give her a competitive edge. After all, she stated she is "looking for loan signing and loan modification work". Our profiles are like mini resumes and companies reading profiles in anticipation of hiring a notary judge based on what they read and SEE.

<<<Just because Patricia has a photo of her out enjoying herself doesn't mean companies will expect her to dress the same way on a signing. There is one member who has a photo of her as an American Gladiator in her profile. I am sure companies don't expect her to show up the same way.>>>

If image didn't matter, your FIRST IMPRESSION of the man in the business suit wouldn't be that he's a businessman, nor would you automatically think the guy in coveralls is a laborer. If image wasn't important, we wouldn't show up at a job interview dressed up - and there would be no dress codes at work. Even the courts have a dress code. Everything I said can be completely ignored but it doesn't change my position - at all.

Why respond to her profile at all? That wasn't the message

she was posting, she was posting good will for the holidays. Face it, you were out of line and it wouldn't kill you to offer an apology for going over the line.

Have to agree. My very first thought was "Should have been

a PM." Or, barring that, a new post about profiles in general.
