What would you charge this title co.?

I had a signing the other day in which I had a 1st + 2nd and had to print for $200. The signing was during rush hour and took me 45 min in heavy rain to get there. I couldnt find parking and had to walk in bad weather to find that the borrowers weren't there. I waited in my car for 15 min and finally received a call and found out they cancelled the loan the day before and was told that someone would call me to cancel. The title co says they would take care of me and now they want me to go back and sign them tonight. This has never happened to me where I showed up and it was the L.O. who didnt call to cancel. My question is what do I charge them?

Well, you can't charge for inconvenience

like the pouring rain. (sorry to say, I know you'd like to)
I would just charge what I would have charged if it had been a no-show or no-sign.

I would bill them $50 for the trip & printng for the no-show and the same $200 for the new appointment. Since clients were a no-show, that completes the assignment - the docs were printed and a trip was made, therefore a print & trip fee are due. The fact that they wish to now sign is a NEW appointment. Two invoices for two separate fees.

I must add, the relationship you have with this entity may warrant a different approach....if you have a long standing and good relationship with the entity and they've always honored their commitment in a timely manner, you may choose to waive any print/trip fee. It's up to you.

This is my policy

Cancellation before edocs are printed = No Charge
Cancellation after edocs are printed = $xx.00 "whatever your print fee is"
No-show or no-sign = Half fee + Travel fees apply
Signer/borrower lack proper ID = Half fee + Travel fees apply
Resign on lender error = Half fee applies

Did you confirm the appointment before you left?

I always do a same day confirmation before I leave for the signing. Just a courtesy call to let them know I am coming. It has save me a few times from your situation.

Another tip: Many times, the TC will tell me a time for the appointment. Usually that is just a number that the scheduler pulled out of a hat just to set a time and you will find when you call the BO, that this was bad for them also. I always schedule my own appointments with traffic and weather. And I don't schedule them until I have the documents in my hand. That way when you have multiple signings in a day, late docs don't ruin your day.
