Dumb question on dating docs.
If the military personnel date their docs like "08Feb08" or "080208" Would it be OK to date it "08/02/08"? This looks to me like August 2nd 2008.... but a foreign wife asked her husband if this was OK tonight, and he said it was.

No, not dumb question. I have had that happen in past,
and asked that they put 8 Feb 08 as this would be more familiar in this country. Esp. on vital docs: RTC and TIL. I'm the only one dating on Mtg so that's not a concern and I think that title docs and most of the others no big deal. I would attach note top of stack to point out style upon return.

Re: No, not dumb question. I have had that happen in past,
Thanks. I'm just sick over it, thinking I'm going to have to go back to get re-signed. My MAIN concern is the RTC.... The date on it is of course for today, but when she dated it, it looks so odd, like it's Aug 02, 08. Ugh!

Re: No, not dumb question. I have had that happen in past,
Having worked with overseas people for many years, I nearly always date my notary certificates and anything else important in the format "8 Feb 2008" to eliminate any confusion (particularly at the beginning of the month - e.g., 31/12/2007 isn't confusing because there's no month 31.)

Me too. And the borrower (Army) refused to date docs any other way than 8 Feb 08. He had already given the LO a hard time about the date during the course of processing the loan, according to the borrower. His date, his signature and I did not push for any other way to date. Good thing (for me) my instructions did not stip. the way the date s/b written. He would have been a tough cookie!

Do you think I should go back and have her change them? I WISH I could call the TC over the weekend, but I know they are not in at all.

Re: No, not dumb question. I have had that happen in past,
I think only you can determine that. But if it is going to drive you crazy (I know that feeling) you could go back and ask them to write below the 080208 (Feb. 8, 2008) on RTC and TIL.
That's not advice, just a thought......... and another thing, if this is a VA loan, they (lender and title) may be use to seeing the docs dated as you state.

No, just attach stickie, mention in status report & on any
other communications you have with them. Let it go - have a great Sunday worry-free!

Re: No, just attach stickie, mention in status report & on any
I'll do a letter to the TC, stating it is the borrower's style of document dating, and that in fact all docs were signed on this date.... blah blah blah and offer if there are any issues, I would be happy to go out again and fix them.
All I know is.... Next time I won't feel bad about challenging this sort of thing, just to CMA!
I've been a Notary for a long time and NEVER ran in to this kind of thing (though I've only been doing mortgage signings for a little while). Goes to show, you always learn something new I guess.

Given the context in the rest of the documents the RTC should be clear. I would not worry about it further.
Frankly, I think the military way of dating documents 08 Feb 08 is more sensible. But then again, I'm used to seeing the dating of documents as "the 8th day of February, 2008".

Was there a "Warning Regarding Notice of Right to Cancel" page in your package? If so, look at the example of how they want the document dated. Everyone that I've read wants the date done as Month, Day, and Year (xx/xx/xxxx) is the example. The only other way I've ever had a TC/Lender accept the date is if they write it: 08 February, 2008, they had to write out the month. I had to go back once because of a client like the one you are talking about, after that I put the RTC behind the HUD and if they won't sign the way instructed I tell them that if that is the case then I need to leave because the loan will not fund if they don't sign the documents as instructed. I start to gather up the papers and you would be surprised at how fast they back down and start following instructions. You were dealing with someone that is used to being in control of the situation. Sometimes the borrower's don't understand that you are responsible for getting their documents signed correctly so that their loan funds on time.

My thought, exactly. Most of the rest of the world does it that way -- we're the ones who have to be different.... ;>
