FASS
I have a assignment tomorrow with FASS that was contracted on Friday. Today they called me to confirm the appointment and they notified me that the conversation was being recorded.
She said to be sure and follow the instructions. I read the confirmation and they are now requiring the SA update the website or call with the tracking number within 60 mins of the start time or no pay. Also the appointment can not be changed unless the borrower requests it.
Has anyone had issues with their new requirements? I have only worked for them one time in the past and they paid quickly but I was not required to confirm the appointment while being recorded.

>>> ... now requiring the SA update the website or call with the tracking number within 60 mins of the start time or no pay. <<<
They've got to be kidding! I allow 60 minutes just to be at the table, plus driving time. That means that it could be 2 hours, or longer, before I can update a website or provide a tracking number. And what if the SA has another signing immediately following the FASS one? Sheesh!!

Those are ridiculous requirements - no pay if you don't call in a completion within 60 minutes of the scheduled start time? Are they serious?
I would suggest preparing the shipping label in advance and taking it with you to the signing - at least that way, you can still "update" them if the signing runs too long and you can't get back to your computer in time.

I know that some SA's talk about being done with every assignment in 45 mins or so but I tend to take my time at a signing. I don't want to give the BO the impression I am in a hurry with their loan. Am I to stop at 60 mins and call them to say I have 15 mins to go and here is the tracking number? How rude would that be to the BO?
I was planning on taking the shipping label with me so I could drop the docs prior to getting back to the house.
The recording the conversation was a new experience for me.

That's insane! I've never worked for them but there's no way I'd ever commit to that. Are the docs overnight or edocs?

E-docs, 7 miles and I got my normal fee no questions.

That's good they meet your fee and it's not far away -- but will the docs all be emailed to you in time for you to keep the appointment? I feel like I'm almost always waiting for docs as the appointment time draws closer and closer. I wonder why they're requiring these new terms?? Good luck!

I haven't heard from them in a while. The 60 minutes I could not live with as in my geographical area just the travel time could be more than that. I am sure that you have had long travel times in your area as well. Plus, even in these lean times, I have had days of 3 or 4 and I won't take a job where I have to stop by the home-office just to report I am done. Perhaps someone on their end wrote poor instructions. I would call them on it to see .....

This 60 minute requirement is not an issue, it has always been in the fine print on their confirmations. These people are easy to work with, fast pay and will pay the prevailing fees in your area. Sometimes they want a call from the table to confirm the signing, this is not a problem. If you have a 2 hour drive before you get home to close it out on their website, that has never been an issue. It's easy to close this out the day of the signing and I think that is all that is really required.

Not a bad policy, actually
"All orders must be confirmed following the signing in order for the notary to be paid, this should be done within 60 minutes of the signing appointment start time by either logging onto vendor.fassnotary.com or calling FASS at (888) 270-3630."
Ridiculous as it may sound, but the out come of a signing means gold to everyone involved. It should only takes a minute to call in and say the signing is completed then update website, email, or fax in at a later time. IMO...Little detail like this can put you miles ahead of your competition.

Re: Not a bad policy, actually
Thanks everyone
I have had to call after the signing is complete for many companies, but not within the 60 min issue. I will call as I arrive to let them know everything is on schedule and give them the tracking number then as I already have it ready.
My main point was that they called and recorded the conversation. Never had that happen before!

Perhaps the point of the recording is for them to QC the far eastern accents to determine if they need further diction training.

Re: good company
I've worked with them on several occasions, the last one a few weeks ago and at that time they didn't advise they were recording the conversation. My experience has been they're a good company to work with, have met my fees and payment usually within a couple of weeks.

I often wonder just what everyones fees are that they are being met. I'm a licensed title producer and FASS has never offered me more than $75. I've never done a signing for FASS but one time First American Title met my fee. Took me four months to get them to pay that one.

Re: good company
I have never worked for FASS. I won't do signings for $50. I have worked many times for different First American offices. Some of their closers refuse to use FASS. I have ALWAYS been paid when the loan funds. Do not hesitate to work for First American, if called by one of their closers.

I know I wouldn't hesitate at all to tell them no way. Four months is to long for me to wait to get paid.

Re: good company
I agree four months to get paid is unacceptable.
I've done more than a dozen closings for First American. (not FASS) I have always been paid promptly.
I take it that you did one...and did they say exactly why you were not paid when the loan closed?

The normal song and dance. They ignored all correspondence till after the 60 day mark, then had to "research" it, admitted they owed it around the 70 day mark, then needed a W-9, then later needed a new invoice, then had to get payment approved, then mailed check. I received the check 173 days after signing.

FASS call w/in 60 minutes ...
I did a FASS recently with a lovely couple; HOWEVER, they were EXTREMELY annoyed at FASS.
Young, nervous "readers." I was in no rush. It took 15 minutes just for them to get their ID information together and to call the witness to come over.
60 minutes after the EXACT "start time of the signing," my cell rings: FASS asked me if it had closed, I put the husband on to say, "No. We are still going over the documents." "I will call FASS as soon as we are done."
10 minutes later it was FASS again on my cell: Asked me if it had closed, again husband and I both say, "No. I will call when we are done."
Couple asked, "Why is FASS rushing us to sign all these legal documents without reading them."
Personally, I think it would be wiser to push the "you must call sign or we will call you" time to at least 90 minutes after the "official" start time. It's not like when I walk in the door borrowers are sitting and panting like two dogs anxiously waiting for me to fill their dinner bowls. Most of the time they are gathering up the pets, children, and clearing off the table for a writing surface as I walk in the door.

My fees haven't been the $50/$75 but rather XXX and FASS has met those, to set the record straight.

So you've been paid.... XXX? Three digits? So $100 to $999? Well, good for you! I doubt if anyone is reading this old post, but I'd sure like to hear form anyone (non-attorney States please) that has been paid over $100 from FASS recently.
