How long does it take?

I have a Notary Friend who's commision expired on 1/28/08. She's been trying to renew her commision since September Frown This is what she's experienced...

Have you experienced these problems Took renewal Notary test in September, received notification from SOS that would have to submit fingerprint and picture in October. Between October and November, followed up with SOS… told to early for a response. Called back in December, told by SOS that they are processing the application. Told in January, background check completed…. February, still waiting on FBI.

have you gone through these challenges?

A CA notary whose commission is expiring in 2008 but took the test in 2007 had some special issues because of the new passport type photo that must be submitted with his/her application and the new required FBI check for fingerprints.

I think your friend should call our Sec of State and find out when this commission will arrive.
Just a suggestion and I hope this helps.

She is a CA notary and has called the SOS to follow up only to be told most recently.... waiting on the FBI clearance.

My experience was much better

I took the class and test November 10, 2007. Received the letter telling me I passed around Dec. 3. Received a letter Dec. 7 telling me that I had to get another livescan and submit a photo. I had already had the photo taken and got the livescan done Dec. 7, 2007.

January 24, 2008, my new commission was mailed to me. Yesterday I went to the County Recorder's office to file my bond and do the oath. I am good to go with my new commission February 22, with no lapse.

I don't know why it went so quickly, but I am very glad that it did. One suggestion for your friend, if she doesn't get answers, is to have her contact her Assemblyman's office, and have them check into it. They might be able to get someone moving on it since it's a State office.

Good luck!
