Just out of curiosity...
Would you take a call that was willing to have you drive a couple towns away for one signature paying you $25.00. Supposedly, it was to "fix" somebody else's mistake. Is it worth it to you? Just curious. =} I couldn't take it due to prior commitments but I get these types of calls every so often.

Depends
Depends on how close it is to my favorite stores! If it were close to say a Trader Joes and I hadn't been there in a long time it would be worth it to me...how many bottles of wine can you get at TJ's for $25?

Re: Depends
I have a town about 20 miles out that has a store where I can get my legal paper for about $2.50 a ream and has other great bargains. That I might go to. I usually charge $35 for one paper though. I have had instances where one notarization turned into quite a few signed docs that had to be faxed back, so now really question the caller.

I wouldn't do it a couple of towns away, but I would do it if it were less than 10 miles and for a company that I regularly work for. I would ask them to call me FIRST the next time and have the job done right in the first place!

Well in my neck of the woods a couple of towns away is approximately 2 miles. There are a lot of towns in our county that are only a mile or a mile and half big. So it was pretty close. Also this area has many Notaries so it would be pretty easy for them to find another. I guess that is why I felt somewhat "guilty". (only somewhat though) They weren't too flexible with the time and I had another obligation that night. The responses about shopping or buying wine were pretty funny. =} But I probably would have had to spend the $25 on babysitting and that pretty much made it not equitable for me. Thanks =} I still felt bad. I have no idea why. hee hee

PS I had no idea who this company was. It wasn't one of my clients. I don't think I was ever called by them before.

I just got an offer for an 18 page fix it with one "notary" and a couple of "just sign" for same price it was about 15 miles from my home. I told them to add at least $25 for travel and fax back and I might conceder it. She said that $25 is all she is allowed to offer. I told her to check on it and call back. But then I did my research and found out that Nationwide Notaries of OR has a bad rep for no pays, so I hope not to hear back from them.

I would have had to wait for the money if I even got paid at all.

if I could get a loan somewhere for the $30 gas I ..
would need,I might call them and tell 'em I'd do it a little cheaper just to git the job...say mabe $20.

Yes, probably.
As other people have said, it would depend on what else was on my schedule, whether I could / needed to shop nearby, had other work in the same area (or on the way to or from), and how likely I thought I was to get paid (and in a timely fashion).
Remember, we may get future work by displaying our high quality and professionalism. We may also have a chance to network. Finding out how and why one of our local competitors messed up is also very valuable!
