Microcassette Recorder v. IC Recorder

My boss is used to using his Panasonic microcassette recorder which has just gone on the blink - went to order him a new one and they have been discontinued the microcassette recorders and gone digital. Anyone use this new system. I don't think he's going to like it, plus he is very computer illiterate and even technically illiterate.

Phillip - how is it to operate for a person that is not technically inclined?

I think he'll have trouble with the transition. Get him a Standard Cassette Transcriber.

However, I am all for the digital. I have a foot pedal and headphones I can use on my computer at home. I used to transcribe part-time. They can email you the files, you type 'em.

Email 'em back.

For me, the transition would be easy...but for a guy who doesn't WANT to learn his technology...keep him happy with those big ol' cassettes.

I _love_ my Sony ICD-P520!

Super easy to use. Here's the highlights:
Push one button to record. Push it again to pause. Push another button to stop. (You can go from recording to stop or recording to play back immediately!)

Push one button to play.

Scroll backwards and forwards through recordings.

Four "folders" (A, B, C, D), with a maximum of 99 recordings in each.

Jacks for input (microphone) and output (headphone).

USB cable for uploading to PC.

FREE software that uploads automatically; automatic deletion of recording from recorder is an option (requires confirmation). Software also enables editing and saving in native format or as MP3.

Each recording is automatically timestamped. Timestamp travels up to the PC automatically.

I use the beast for _every_ signing. "Leaving home. Odometer 123.4", "Arriving at 123 Main Street. Odometer 234.5", "Remember to call Brenda about the TX Notary whose stamp was illegible.", "Dropping docs. Odometer 345.6".

If you'd like to hear what it sounds like, drop me an email message and I'll email an MP3 file to you.
