My experience with a so called "5 Star" company
I am in North Carolina. The company involved is Signing Carolina. I have worked for them before and they always paid. I got a call to do a same day signing and accepted the assignment. Sometime in between my leaving home and the time I arrived at the Borrower's home, the lender decided to change some documents. I was informed of this upon my arrival. The borrowers did not have a laser printer nor did they have legal paper. I just happened to have some legal paper in my car (whew) because the nearest office supply store was over 20 miles away and we used my stash to print for what seemed like forever on an inkjet printer. I called the signing company from the borrowers home and told them that this was taking forever and that I would have to cancel my next appointment in order to complete this one and that my fee would be adjusted accordingly. They agreed, so I went forth. Signing completed. Invoiced them my adjusted fee amount. They made no noises and raised no issues with the invoiced amount. Check comes in the mail. Originally agreed upon fee. No adjustment. I called them and they refused to honor the increased price saying I should have NEVER called them from the borrowers home to discuss fees. I told them NEVER to contact me again for ANY assignments in the future. What a rip off!

This happens occasionally. I keep my laptop and my "backup" printer with me in the vehicle, so I can accommodate this situation, when it occurs. If I didn't have this, I would NOT cancel my next appointment, but return with the updated docs AFTER the next appointment, FWIW.

You are SO right, Mistarella...thanks for the advice. I had thought about getting a spare laser printer to keep in my car. I am going to have to get really serious about keeping an eye out for the sales on them.

Dianne, check with ebay....I got my backup there...about $50 (HP laserjet 1000). I also have a canon pc 160 (Paid on ebay- $5.01) for making D/L copies. Makes my life easier. Why work harder when you can work smarter?

I don't work for them because they don't meet my fees and don't like to hire those with more experience or knowledge than they have!
I am constantly called by TC's that have hired Signing Carolina to do closings, and the notary's are no shows, or a re-sign has to happen because the notary didn't have a clue. I get one of these calls every week, the week of Christmas I got 4 of these calls.

Amen, Lisa! You are absolutely right.
I wouldn't have been so angry if they had raised an issue with my invoiced amount before time to pay me, but to wait until time to pay me and then simply ignore my increased price AFTER agreeing to it while on the phone at the borrower's residence really singed me.
They won't have to worry about sending ME anywhere again.

Oh, no. I have just accepted my first signing with them and hope I don't encounter any problems. They met my fee but are requiring several fax backs because it is my first time dealing with them...I don't mind doing this just the one time.

I like this company, as far as I am concerned they pay a reasonable fee. They pay on time and if I don't like the offered fee I simply don't take the signing. No fax backs unless the lender requires it. Did one last night for them.

I wish I had checked your memo before I took this assignment from them. They screwed me over on a closing recently.
