New one for me

I received a call for a closing from a company I have worked for many times. The closing was scheduled for today at 10 am. I received the confirmation last night and the docs last night. I'm thinking great no waiting around. I call the borrower to confirm the appt. and address and everything is fine. I arrive at the home this morning knock at the door and introduce myself as the notary they spoke to last night. The guy looks at me like I have lost my mind. He says the notary is already here. At this point I'm confused. I ask and confirm his name and address and its correct. All I can say is ok, and go back to my car and call the SS. They ask for my order number and name. The too confirm that I am the notary scheduled for this closing and ask if I saw or spoke with the other notary. I say no, the borrower of course wouldn't let me into his home, I have no clue who was there. They state they can't explain what has happened and will need to speak with a manager but, they will pay me my full fee. Let's see if I actually receive it.

I was at a closing one time on a Saturday morning and another notary called to confirm her appointment with B's scheduled for about 2 hours later - very weird, but sometimes things get double-booked with different SS. I even had one that I accepted, then 5 minutes later, get called from a different SS for the exact same closing. I've also been on the other end where I'm the second notary calling and they tell me that the notary is already here! Only seems to happen with SS jobs (not TC).

This happened to me this past Sat. and I was ticked for several reasons. It was due to one SS contracting out to another SS. The first one called me for a 2pm. I agreed. Got confirmation. They called back and moved it till 4. Still ok with me. Get new confirmation. Called again and moved it back to 2. Still ok. Then the other SS calls to confirm the new 2pm. I said all is good. At 10:30pm I get called again to confirm the 2pm. He said I would have doc's shortly or early AM. No problem. I called borrower in the morning and was told someone was already there and gone. I wish I would have asked the borrower who the notary was. I shot both SS an e-mail telling them to take me off their list immediatley. I've done several in the last couple months for one of them and they are ok, but the other one this was a first. I'm not putting up with this crap. I usually just go with the flow, but this was ridiculous. 5 phone calls and still didn't get the closing. Never again. I'm down to just a handful of SS that I will work for anymore.

Check the public record in a few days to find out who actually closed the loan.

I'm with you, Linda, now is not the time to be dealing with inept SSs.
How hard is it to make a few phone calls keep track of what you are doing? Really!

It's not always the SS fault.

I have also been on both ends with this. What is really weird is that they send the docs to two different notaries. I have called the SS and they are mad too. Sometimes the client calls two different SS, and so the second SS is not going to get paid either. When I am the first notary on this, it frightens the borrowers. They think thay maybe the other notary has different docs, not to mention that the ohter notary has all their info. They think there is some kind of scam going on, and it makes them more nervous to sign the docs, and they wind up scrutinizing everything for an extra hour or so. Calling two different SS does not help anything.

Not to mention that the second notary might have turned down other jobs because of this, and they could be making money somehwhere else, or at home with their family.

Re: It's not always the SS fault.

I own a SS and believe you me, WE CANNOT STAND when clients do this. We have many instances where clients have had multiple SS's working the same closing. They are fishing to see who can either fill it first or who comes in with the cheapest price. It isnt fair to ANYONE involved because my schedulers end up calling the same people that another SS called. In addition, we have had occassions where a client will throw us orders that they cannot fill. Unbeknownst to us, they have called EVERY contact that they know of and throw us the order when they get tired of working it. WE DO NOT PLAY THAT GAME. Its a waste of everyones time!

Had the same thing happen to me this last weekend. I arrived first and the borrower told me another notary was coming. I confirmed the appointment with the wife and the other notary confirmed the appointment with the husband. We both had the same set of doc's. SS said they would pay us both when I called. I have never had this happen with this SS and I do a lot of signings for them. I always arrive 5 minutes early which helped, as I got the job because I was first to arrive.

Also happened one other time. That time the borrower had double appt'd and both sets of docs came at the same time. Funny thing was that I was called for both appointments but had to turn one of them down since I was already booked for that time. Never would have thought it was for the same borrower. Luckily they took the loan that I had. Don't know if the other notary was paid or not, but hopefully she was.
