Quill recent fiasco orders.

I called Quill and cancel my order.

I remember 15 or 17 years ago I was at my local OfficeMax and I was looking for a digital camera and all of them were too expensive and I saw one at a very reasonable price at 99.99 dollars I took the little piece of paper that you take to the cashier, when I got there the cashier she told me that the price was wrong and that the price was actually 699.99! I told her that it was not my fault and that they should sell me at least one for the price advertised.

Well they call the store manager and he told the girl to sell me one at that price. The manager left and the cashier told me that how many cameras I wanted. I asked her if she sell me more than one since the manager said just one. She said yes! I Purchased 2 cameras at 99.99each.

I still have one, it is a dinosaur now

I have to say I can't believe how people are acting about this. They made a mistake (Quill). They have been honest about it and not tried to hide it and yet everyone wants the "free" deal. All the talk everyone does about ethics and honesty and they still feel justified.

I guess I just don't get it. No one is out any money, they didn't not send you something but still charge you for it.

These things happen, it doesn't entitle anyone to a financial boom.

I am very happy with Quill and always have been

I ordered two cases of legal size paper around noon last Thursday (Thank you all who posted the sale information and item #) and had the delivery at 2pm on Friday. Doesn't get better than that IMO!!

Re: I am very happy with Quill and always have been

I buy from Quill's all the time. I just placed an order today. I'm not looking for "something for nothing" Sounds like a deadbeat SS! I'm in business, as they are. I've been happy with their service so far. I'll use them again.

Original price $299. $150 off. Close enough to 50% off. As for previous poster getting 2 $699 cameras for $99... you took advantage of the co's offer to sell it to you for good public relations reasons.

Bait & Switch is good public relations?

They made an error in advertising.... But its still Bait & Switch, whether intended or not.

Re: Bait & Switch is good public relations?

Advertising is advertising....Mostly all lies...You didn't know that? If you are really disgruntled about this (how petty) DON'T buy from them! Go down to your local stationary/ camera/computer/whatever, store and buy from them. Or call the Attorney General, and the Federal Trade Commission, and your lawyer, and file another frivilous law suite, about how you were damaged.
Anyone have any interesting signings today?

Technically...

...it's not "bait & switch" because there was no "switch". Here's one legal definition I found for the term:

"A dishonest sales practice in which a business advertises a bargain price for an item in order to draw customers into the store and then tells the prospective buyer that the advertised item is of poor quality or no longer available and attempts to switch the customer to a more expensive product. Electronic items such as stereos, televisions, telephones are favorites, but there are also loan interest rates which turn out to be only for short term or low maximums, and then the switch is to a more expensive loan. In most states this practice is a crime and can also be the basis for a personal lawsuit if damages can be proved. The business using "bait and switch" is an apt target for a class action since there are many customers but each transaction scarcely warrants the costs of a suit alone."

BTW, the standard disclaimer is offered: I'm not a "practicing" (nor any other kind for that matter) lawyer & this shouldn't be construed as legal advice. Even though I used to watch both Perry Mason (B&W & color versions) & Matlock as two of my favorite TV shows this does not qualify me to offer legal opinions or advice.

Re: Bait & Switch is good public relations?

Shane, Gotta disagree with you on the B/S.

To Bait & Switch; you have to have both the bait and the switch and the intent. Quill made an error. They aren't offering anything as compensation for it.

If they did, now that WOULD be a bait/switch.

ahhh.....But a switch did occur :)

I suppose my disclaimer:
I am not a lawyer, everything Dennis said I ditto except the Matlock part, and I never ordered from Quill, I'm just throwing around my opinions as usual.

Anyway... The switch occured when they changed the price from one price to another.
They baited people into purchasing an item, at an incorrect price, only to correct it when you attempt to purchase it.

While it may have been an error, I'd still argue it falls into the Bait & Switch category..much like a loan officer who offers a 6% rate, but switches it to a 6.25% rate at close....

anyway, just my not so humble opinion that will not be changed, regardless of the evidence you bring forth, with the exception of case law, or supreme court ruling ....(i'm self aware) Wink

I got nuthin'

Since I wrote the earlier post I just found out that one of my stepsons wives is 13 weeks pregnant with triplets...this argument has kind of faded off into a jelly like substance into what used to be a normal life. Sittin' here in shock trying to figure out how this is all gonna work! Smile Their youngest is five months. Their older boy is five years. Triplets. Oh my. Yes...we are thankful for the blessings, but the realistic view keeps messing with me.

It's all going to be okay.

I just talked to the kids (mommy/daddy) and they sound sane and rational....and happy. Now, that I know that, I can be thrilled!

Thanks for the kinds words, Dennis and Ernest. If you want to give us any triplet advice, start a thread on the LF. Smile

Sorry to hijack the thread. Back to Quill...

My mistake. Should have been "one of my stepsons' wives".

I have two stepsons. Each of them have a wife.

Try finding out that your baby is going to have three babies at one time, to add to the two little fellows who have already made an appearance. It's overwhelming; punctuation and grammar don't mean a whole lot during that discovery.

Re: Bait & Switch is good public relations?

Just a quick help for all of us that are trying to save money. I suggest that you go to
ebates.com. Even there you can shop online with Quills and 123 inkjet.com and get money back a check every 3 months. I just bought three laser toners and got a ebate credit on my account of 16.98 back. It all adds up. Take a good look at this site. You can shop at Office Max, Staples, Office Depot and all major stores. Good luck to all! and Happy End of the Month to all!

Hey I would be happy with receiving the apology e-mail. My order is not appearing when I log in on their website, and they never contacted me to cancel. I think they should at least acknowledge their error to the people who successfully completed an order.

I was in retail

I was in retail for almost 20 years, we made mistakes in advertising and we always honored the 'sale' price. However, our 'sale' price was not for free nor with free shipping. I have been reading this thread for the last couple of days and sorry, have to agree with Quill on this one.
Everyone thought the were getting a free printer and free shipping. I get that. Quill could have sent the printers for free or the $149 price, not have made/lost anything, kept goodwill amongst their customers, but the free shipping would have really hurt them...I don't know about you, but when I go to ship anything the rate starts at $10, and that is not for a heavy oversized box. When I saw this deal come up on notrot, I thought, I want that! I checked the price of replacement cartridges and I was shocked at the price for 3000 copies, so maybe it all worked out for the best after all. Jmo
