States with mileage/travel fee restrictions question?

Do any of you know which states have a mileage fee/travel restriction for notary work and if so what those restrictions are?

TIA
Carmen

Your question makes no sense.

If you are in California, why do you care?

CT mandates $0.35 per mile maximum.

Ah. A Private Message from a very respected Member ...

... cleared up the matter of the silly question.

Think about it: Why would somebody notarially active in just one state want to know about all other states?r That is, a Notary who could only be paid to travel in her own state to do Notary Public work. Why would she want to know about, say, Rhode Island _and_ Maine _and_ New York _and_ Pennsylvania _and_ Florida _and_ ...?r Anyone?r Anyone?r Bueller?

What???

I'm sorry that you feel my question is silly. I am doing some research for a project that I am working on and I was aware that there were only a few states that had a mileage restriction and I thought some of you might shed some light on it for me. Sorry I asked.

Carmen

Google is your best friend, just enter each state and read

about the allowable fees for their notaries.

I believe that you will need to do that research yourself

it's hard enough remembering my own states rules much less the rules for 49 others.

no restriction here but i charge at least the Federal mileage allowance, plus a resonable fee for my travel "time".

I no longer charge a "mileage/travel" fee, but a "service fee"... this covers everything except the actual notarization fees.

Thank you for the support Peter. Smile

I realize now that they not knowing who I am would think that I was a troll. It is ok, I do understand. Nowadays it is very hard to know who to trust.

I had already gathered most of the states fee information from the various SOS's office's websites before I posted. Some of them were not clear on the mileage issue so I thought I could pick a few brains...and have my peers chime in.

Thank you to those of you that posted positively. I really do appreciate it.

I think I've missed something. Correct me if I'm wrong, but, I thought the mileage allowance was set by the Fed./IRS., NOT BY THE STATES. Which for '07 was 48.5cts.

Ok, I got it.! I've got that also, when I do local stuff, outside of the regular refis. That first cup hasn't reached all parts yet.

Ernest - lighten up

This seems to me to be a legitimate question from someone who has an interest in the Notary regulations of all the states.
I have spoken with Carmen on several occasions and she has always been very pleasant and helpful.
I promise she is not looking for answers to any test.

It's a tough crowd in here sometimes. Let me know if you didn't get the info you were asking for (Florida), Carmen, and I'll send it to you....it's not top secret or anything, ha.

Believe it not there are some notaries that don't check out Carmen's usual hangout (I know it won't allow me to say the name on here).
It is one of the forums I visit, so I do know who Carmen is (a very nice lady, by the way).
Ernest obviously wan't aware of who she was, and I did send him a PM to let him know.

Her message, to someone who wasn't familiar with her name, could have been misconstrued as from someone who was taking a test and needed the answerSmile

Thanks for your kind words Sylvia! You are pretty darn nice yourself Smile.

I was not offended by Ernest. There are so many folks out here that want a free ride that one must be careful. You are so correct that if you haven't called our 888 number nor visited our forum you may not know who I am.

All the info, all the state handbooks that also contain restrictions on travel fees .....

Of course, you would have to be a member to get all the info ..... Might be worth it ....
