That's been happening for quite a while

I get calls for LandAmerica assignments, and the initial call is always from someone with a strong India-sounding accent. They always offer a fee lower than I charge, and after I tell me my standard fee, they always have to "see if I can get that approved". Sometimes they call back with an approval and sometimes not. If my standard fee is approved and I accept the assignment, later contact is with the U.S. offices.
And the followup "babysitting" calls are always from someone with a strong India-sounding accent.

I'm sick and tired of ALL the offshore call centers!

As if Americans weren't capable of doing these jobs! Better stop now this probably belongs in the Politics section.....

Reason jobs are outsourced. As I understand it ..

they hire college grads in India for about $200/ month and an
air conditioned office.
Becuase of time difference, most of jobs are late nite.
You are correct , that this should probably be moved to Politics.

Re: That's been happening for quite a while

Yes I got a call yesterday from an Indian man, he called me 3 x's, wanting me to do the job, I told him I have a flat rate fee and that was it, I told him I know that Land Am has me down as a preferred closer for my area, and that I'm sorry, but that I cannot do it for the reduced rate, when he called the 3rd time, he gave me the job.

One time recently . . .

They called me to see if I got the docs. I could tell it was a person from India. I said, "Yes, I have the docs, but there is a huge wild fire in their town, and many houses are burning. What if the house burned down? She paused and said, "But you do have the docs, right?"

(The house was okay).

Re: One time recently... and another ramble, slightly OT ;>)

Didn't you realize that you're not supposed to ask questions that aren't in their script?? Wink I guess you have to give her credit for staying on point... (Oy vey!) But it reminds me of trying to call a company with an automated system when your question doesn't fit into the choices - and they don't leave you an out.

And THAT reminds me of a call I made a couple of days ago. All of a sudden, my phone line went dead in the middle of a conversation, along with my DSL line. (So no Internet connection, either.) I suspected it was the AT&T repairmen I'd seen working on some lines down the street, but not being sure, I tried to call "Customer Service" to find out how to report a maintenance problem. (That number isn't listed anywhere I could find.) After 10 minutes of menus and trying every trick I could think of to get to a real person, I finally was stuck having to choose between having my own repair person come out to check my home's lines (because they, of course, showed no problem with my line or their equipment) or accept payment of a $55 fee to have them dispatch someone to check my home wiring for me. Oh, and before that, I also had to choose between it being a voice problem or a DSL problem. In their world, I guess it's impossible for both to be out at the same time. Not in MY world, though!

Fortunately, before I selected one of their unsatisfactory choices, I rechecked for dial tone (I was calling them from my cell, naturally), and it was back. What I don't know is when that happened. What I DO know is that I am mighty glad I got out of the telecom management business many years ago!! The only good thing I could say about that conversation is that it is slightly easier to talk to their computer than to a live person from India, but no more efficient or helpful!

Ahhhh, for the good old days when there really was such a thing as customer service (with apologies to the very few exceptions, like Nordstrom!) Wink
