Why not just send them $20, and stay home? That way you'd break even, and waste a lot less time.

Not wrong at all. With gas prices and cost of doing business my limit one way is 20-25 miles one way for my "standard fee"

150 miles round trip would cost you 10 dollars or more just for gas and 3-4 hours of your time, subtract cost and taxes you make about 7/hour.

I was wrong on the mileage it was 106 miles 1-way. I hate to turn down work especially in todays climate but gas is running about 2.99 per gallon so I figure it would cost me at least 25.00 for a round trip ticket.

I was more or less venting as I felt it as a insult when they only offered 50 bucks.

You were right to turn down a $50 fee for a 150 mile trip. Were the docs overnighted? I won't accept $50 for any overnight doc, no matter if it is a one mile trip.

It was over night edocs "maybe" they said but if I had to print they would pay me an extra 25......... gee whiz thanks. I've done work for them in the past and they pay in a very timely manner but come on let's get real.

If you like working for $6 or $7 an hour, go for it.

Wrong to focus on the mileage.

I wouldn't take a $50 signing across the street. I mean, it takes about an hour to sign a loan even on a good day.

But every market is different, you know your numbers. (You do know your numbers right?)

Obviously it makes no sense at all with that much travel. No brainer.

I know my #'s and they know my #'s and if they didn't they do now.

Then it was a profitable day, good goin.

Once you know your #'s ya just gotta ask yourself...

Do I wanna work my butt off and be poor, or just watch TV and be poor?

I understand the post, when there's not an abundance of work it's easy to second guess... but you did right. And it's not the kind of business where you can lose on one and there's give and take. Doing one for cheap will not buy you any loyalty or anything else that can make up for it. (It does with certain clients, but not those.)

Anyhow, I applaud your decision, and your airing it out and seeking feedback...

Feedback: you got it right.

You did the right thing. Don't second-guess yourself. Know what your dollar value is and stick with it.

I disagree.

**Pay him/her no mind, comments are always rude and unprofessional**

CaliNotary's comments are not always rude and unprofessional.

At some point we are all rude and unprofessional. It's the nature of this board. I've done my share of apologizing.

In fact, I think it is rude and unprofessional for you to make this comment, just like it is likely your opinion that this post is rude and unprofessional. Bottom line...almost every negatively intended post made is unattractive and can be construed as the pot calling the kettle black.
