A Good Laugh For Ya

I was a bit of a tomboy growing up and liked to watch my dad work on cars. About 10 years ago, this poor company experienced my skills as auto mechanic, during the course of about 5 miserable months, here is what I managed to screw up...

-After inspecting a brand new Cadillac, I backed it out and ripped off the bumper because someone had the oil hose going under the car and I didn't see it.

-I forgot to put oil in a newer Buick and the customer drove off and the engine failed.

-I was doing an oil change for a coworker and forgot to put the oil filter back on (boy, that oil does squirt out pretty fast when you are backing it up without the filter on)

-I saw another worker putting a rubber band around the oil hose so he didn't have to hold the lever down while pumping it, so I thought, "how clever"...I put the rubber band on, (forgot to take it off), then went to order some oil again and the oil squirted out everywhere (all over the vehicle I was working on) from the hose which was hanging overhead - it was like a fireman's hose going out of control!

Those were just the highlights! I can't believe I lasted that long, but I finally quit in lieu of being fired...how embarrassing. I can only think that God let me live this horror so I could laugh about it later.

I want that company's name so I can get a job there! I know how to do all that stuff, and would probably do it just as well as you...ripping off bumpers...and so forth, I mean.

Thanks for sharing that.

My first car was a 68 VW bug my brother had taken to Alaska. He had dad (in San Franciso) find him a VW pickup, you know the one that looked like the mini bus but had a pickup bed, and meet him halfway up the Alaskan highway and swap cars. Dad then rebuilt the engine and met me in Spearfish, SD at my uncles house to sell it to me for $400. Along with that purchase I had a 2 day lesson on tuning the engine. It came to the time when we were done and Dad went up to start the engine while I sat crossed legged watching the engine. As he started it I yelled "Dad! Aren't we supposed to put oil back in it?" Those oil filters were nothing more than a screen with a washer on it, much like what you put on your washing machine hoses. About the same size too. They were reusable if they weren't damaged. Just swish them in some gasoline to clean them and if you had to replace them, were around $1
First thing I did to it when I got back to WI was spill bleach all over the black carpet. Nice tie dye effect.
