Coversign Corporation

Closings for Coversign Corporation, 8/23/07 and 11/1/07, refuses to answer the phone, return phone calls, and pay. Talked to Maurice Coleman several times, the last time he stated he guaranteed it was going out today. His home phone has been disconnected. Left 40 messages, no response. e-mailed, nothing.

Called the title company, and the owner stated he was going to call him, after I sent a letter. Please avoid this company.

I spoke with Maurice on Friday afternoon. The company relocated from Kentucky to Atlanta. Said he was mailing the checks Friday. I will post again on Wednesday as to whether I receive my check.

John, give me the name of the Title Co and I will see if they want to work with a reputable Co like Negrete's Notary Service Inc.

I did an assignment for Coversign this past August. It took me almost 2 months to get paid, but I finally received a check. Not sure how well they are doing now. I know Maurice had high hopes of doing well. I also had problems getting someone to pick up the phone. The only telephone number I have on file for him is 888-723-3700. Good luck

OR

John can contact the title company and use that opportunity to reiterate the benefits of working directly with their contractors and completely removing the middle man.

PEOPLE (couldn't help myself Brenda), think who your competition in this business really is - the guy 2 miles away undercutting you by $5 or a signing service who is taking minimally $25 and according to what some of you say $150 of the fee being paid by the title company.

One more step in the process many times leads to more hassle, handholding, miscommunication, one more entity processing/using your fee, etc.

Re: OR

Sue, I agree with you also to a point. Here are a couple of points to pounder.

Q # 1 ) Does the Title Co pay more to have personel looking for notaries or to have a SS do it for them ?

A # 1 ) It can cost less to hire an outside SS to find closing agents because the Title Co DOES NOT have to pay for all the Workers Comp and anything else associated with an Employee.

I will rest my case here and see how many times I am lamblasted for this answer.

Tony, you have my support...

Hello Tony,
Tony,

I hope that anyone who may disagree with you will show you the same respect that they themselves would desire and that no one will "lambast" you.

Harsh talk is hurtful and alienates, while supportive talk builds.

I am working to be supportive and I believe others are moving in this same direction.

Whether I agree with you or not, you will have my support as everyone is entitled to their viewpoint in this forum.

Burton F.

Tony - re: OR

Naturally, there are exceptions to every rule...in some cases it is necessary for a TC to employ an SS due to volume.

However, the thing which I was agreeing with is that the SS is competition to the SA. In many cases an SS is not needed. In some cases SSs operate as if THEY are personally taking the job while farming it out. All SSs are NOT created equal.

Re: OR

I also agree to a very limited extent with you - perhaps years ago. Today, there are several notary listing sites that both your company and the title companies use. They find the exact same people you do. Their only benefit by using a middle man is they (hopefully) make one phone call. They also have no idea who will touch their documents - someone who knows what they're doing or one of the yahoos who post weekly with no idea what they're doing. However, once they have an established vendor base, they only need make a few calls to find someone to fill their order. Loyalty goes a long way in this business although there isn't much of it. I am not talking about rural areas but urban areas.

All of us who have been in this business for years have continually scratched our heads about the whys and wherefores of using a signing service. Why did Express use you? They had one of the biggest data bases of closers in the country. Those girls weren't too busy to find someone. Throughout the years, their frustration level increased (remember Karen's e-mails?) as did their use of signing services. Towards the end they were basically begging people to do their jobs. How about First American in TX - why did they need you? Why does ILS give work to Frank Amari? Their data base is probably bigger yet. When a title company hires direct, they develop a rapport with their closers and that certainly makes the process easier. I remember years ago I did an order for 21st Century (another one that went out of business with no notice and lots of nonpayment issues). Their order form said they had to be called from the table with ALL questions, they would contact the appropriate party and would call back with the answer. How ridiculous was that? An answer often creates another question. Whisper down the lane should not be applied to something as important as a real estate transaction. You stated you upload the docs to your web site? Why? One more step where an error can occur. What's wrong with providing the lender link? You should be hiring people that can print from there and don't need everything pdf format.

I work for a few signing services and I always have and probably always will. However, any time a nonessential layer can be removed from any process my opinion is that it's going to be better.

Re: OR

I agree with you, Sue. I am happy to work for signing services if they can meet my fee, but I agree that it's far better-- for both the TC and the notary-- if the TC has its own data base. Better fees, better communication, less chance of things slipping through the cracks.
