Getting a raise

Wooo Hooo,

Just read there is a bill in the Maryland senate to raise statutory fees from $2 to $3. I will be dancing in the streets if that passes. LOL.

That still doesn't pay for a Mickey Dees dinner, so what's a dollar?

My post was made tongue-in-cheek. I wasn't serious about being happy.

Hurray and Good Luck, Stamper!

WA increased the notary fees last year to equal the fees in Calif and Florida. Now I make lots more money by having borrowers comes to me with loan packages and general work than I made from TCs. All my clients pay cash on the spot (except RevMort and MA Helocs. They pay 2 weeks later). When a TC calls me, I say I only do signings when the borrowers bring the docs to me and pay me cash on the spot. I do several signings a week.

I had been phoning my state's notary office for a long time about regulation issues. Thus I had a relationship with them when I called to thank them profusely for the fee increase. They said notaries had emailed and phoned them so many times they thought a fee increase was appropriate.

Now when I send them an email re notary regulation/practice questions, they phone me directly and have long chats with me. (The first time they did this I almost fell out of my chair.) Sometimes they just phone me to ask my opinion on something!!!

Notaries - please! - write and phone your SOS notary workers to discuss notary practices. Develope a relationship. Slowly introduce your concerns about low fees inhibiting you from being able to serve people. Your work will pay off!

Best of luck to all NSAs,
LauraV
