My two idols
When I was a boy (no comments please) I was an aspiring young drummer. A very close friend of the family (my mother's boss) was a drummer and got me started with my first "big band" trap set. One day, Mr. Newgeon came over with a friend of his, while I was rehearsing. The "friend" sat down and played like I have never heard the drums being played before. Who was this man? It was Gene Krupa, live and personal and in my house. I don't think I'll ever forget that day, nor the time that Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich played together on the Sammy Davis show in 1966.

You lucky, lucky man. . .
I saw Buddy Rich on the Johnny Carson show and fell in love at that moment - followed his career until his death in the late 80s (?). Don't remember the Sammy Davis show, that was my senior year of high school, I was much too busy to watch TV (wish I could say that now!).

Re: My two idols...my husband's too
along with Sandy Nelson - my husband still drums on any tabletop he can find and the windows get blown out with some of his favorite "drumming" songs...
