HARRY - What happened to the great "Purge"?

Some time ago, you emailed out several issues promising to purge incomplete, inappropriate or ignored free listings. Still, in my area, there are agents listed that have blank profiles and have not updated since 2006. There are also agents that list themselves "free" more than once using different addresses to bump themselves on the top of the list depending on the zip code searched.

Is the purge complete - ongoing - or just done in certain areas of the country. Just wondering

3/4's of the listings within 20 miles of me

Have not been update as far back as 2006. I was also wondering the same. A big thing about updating profile or be removed was made. I think someone should purge the list, we have been warned many months ago.

I just did a check within 30 miles of my zip

Most were updated in 2007, many go back to 2006, and one back in 2005. Amazing how many profiles are blank. Most of the older ones were the basic listings.

Makes good business sense to me to maintain list integrity

by cutting out the deadwood. I'm sure it would help the companies searching for a notary to not have to plow thru empty profiles or those with no contact info given (besides an e-mail address), or people who have not updated for years because they've left the field, etc. Tedious process, but it does need doing. Wondering if it would help or hinder for each of us to look at our own areas & send one e-mail with a list of the above type listings.

Never happened here either. If I were a hiring entity, I would go to another site if many of these old listings were people no longer in business.

I checked out my immediate area a week or so ago and here's what came up: I checked out the first 18 listings before it cut me off for the day. 3 listings are the same person (2 haven't been updated since 2006 & the other in 2/07). 5 others haven't updated since 2006. 5 haven't updated since October '07 and the other 5 did update November & December '07.

I upgraded to premier not too long ago because the list of basic was getting too long and people further away were showing up before my name. Perhaps, if the basic lists were purged, as many people wouldn't upgrade to premier because they'd show up closer to the top !!!!

I also don't under the AccuSearch and Quick Search. I put in a neighboring county and only 3 zip codes showed up - there probably are 25+ in that county.

just did an AccuSearch for a county less than 15 miles from me. 25 basic (nonpaying) members show up but me, a paying member doesn't. I am signed up for entire counties and just don't get why I don't show up.

Situation is exactly the same for me as Sue in Pa

of course I got blocked before I could do further investigation BUT something needs to be done. There's profiles with nothing in them...let's get this free deadwood out of the system please!

I just did a 10 mile search of my zip - 48170

At least 10 profiles that haven't been updated in over a year. Many that date back to the middle of 2006. It sure would be nice to clear out the clutter.

HARRY - If I were in charge, this is what I would do......

Get rid of the free listings and charge a nominal fee, $5 - $10. This would insure that those that are listed are updating at least once a year. No longer will you have to email, fax, call and threaten to remove them if they don't update by a designated date. If they are no longer in business, then they don't renew. This will surely get rid of the dead wood and would also get rid of those that list themselves two, three, four different ways to make sure they are on top of the every list. They get these multiple listing free I might add.

Another opinion - and we know what they say about opinions - why do companies have to be logged in to search? I know you must have a good reason, I just can't imagine that it could be good enough to compensate for the title companies and SS's that go to other sites because they get locked out. So many times I have been called for a closing I couldn't do and have asked if they checked NR. Frequently, I get the "I got locked out" comment or we've called 5 people and either they no longer do closing or the phone number doesn't work. Getting locked out is enough to send them to another site and it's always harder to get them back.

I have a premium listing here, and I have gotten calls from this site. But, currently, I am getting more calls from another listing where you are required to update on a regular basis and there are no limitations on searches.

As I said, Just my opinion, from both a premium member and user of the list. I really didn't mean to start a riot. :-)

No, no riot.

My percentage of calls from this site have dropped off as well. I am getting more from a couple of other sites also.

Question about purge and premier

I did a search in my area and found a premier member that has not updated their profile since 11-24-2006. With the premier membership only being for 365 days, how is it possible she is still a premier member?

I will be upgrading here in the next couple of months, low on funds, and was just curious.

Re: Question about purge and premier

She probably renewed her premier membership. She didn't have to update her profile unless info has changed.

Re: Question about purge and premier I update my profile

everytime I'm out of the area. I usually change the picture and not the text. It doesn't really matter I just do it 'case that's the way I am but it keeps me updated.

Only three other notaries in 30 miles, two blank profiles and the latest update was January of 07.
