HP Laserjet 1300 + Windows Vista Question - Revisited
I posted a question yesterday asking who, if anyone, is using this combination successfully with the dual-tray option. In other words, who is able to print docs on both sizes of paper without having to switch back-and-forth manually? I received several attempts at a helpful response, but I gather that you need more information to help me. I have already downloaded all of the various drivers available at the HP website previously. The problem is that none of the drivers allow me to print using my second-tray option. That's why I was asking what driver(s)/printer settings anyone has been able to use successfully. If you are able to print on both sizes of paper w/o switching back and forth manually, please simply post which driver you're using and your exact printer settings in the "Properties" section. Thanks in advance again. Please know that I highly appreciate all of the responses received yesterday as well...

While I don't have the 1300, I do have the HP 2015dn (X) a dual-tray network printer that I heard was the replacement for the 1300, that I have running under both Vista and XP (two laptops on a home network). If you want to give me a call, you are more than welcome to do so, or I can call you if you want to send me your number. My number is 813.244.2710.
Regards, Tony

I didn't know the HP1300 does reverse printing????
Mine is just a single tray, but I had no idea the machine would do reverse printing, even though I've owned it for around 3 years! Guess I need to dig out the manual and start reading.

See Ebay link for a second tray here...
Hi, Sharon! I bought my second tray on Ebay a couple of years ago. Have never had any problems -- except with Windows Vista, of course. Here's the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-HP-Laserjet-1300-1300N-Printer-250-Sheet-Paper-Tray_W0QQitemZ310017779660QQihZ021QQcategoryZ11197QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

You have to go into the printer setup (in the machine itself - not drivers or printer settings on the pc) and tell the machine that you have another tray.
My printer has a drop down door for manual feeding of envelopes, etc. The machine (by default) is setup to see this as TRAY #1 (I set it to use ANY size paper) and the regular paper tray as TRAY #2 (I set it to letter size paper). I had to go into the physical machine settings and TURN ON the settings for TRAY #3 (I set it to use legal size paper) which is then seen as the second paper tray. Tray #3 is turned off by default on HP Printers.
Then I went into the PC printer settings and tell the printer to Automatically Select paper size.

Unfortunately, Tony, I don't see anything like this inside the 1300. I'm lost...

Is this just a 1300 or is it a 1300n printer (network)?

Configuring the optional 250-sheet paper tray in the print driver (Windows)
1. From the Windows task bar, click Start , Settings , and then Printers . 2. Right-click the HP LaserJet 1300 series printer icon and select Properties . 3. Select the appropriate Windows option below to configure the tray in the driver: * For Windows 2000 and XP: In Installable Options , locate the Tray 2 option and select Installed . * For Windows 98, Me, and NT: Click Configure . Locate the Optional Paper Source option and select Tray 2 . 4. Print a Configuration page to verify that the paper tray has been added.

Re: HP Laserjet 1300 Installing the Optional 250-Sheet Paper
Unfortunately, Tony, you will notice that the instructions you posted for me here do not allude to Windows Vista at all. So, I'm beginning to think that the use of the dual-tray option is not recognized by Vista for the 1300. My printer only uses the paper from the 2nd tray after the 1st tray has run out of the same... Oh, well... So much for getting a new laptop.

Same problem for my 2100M laser jet printer...
Hello,
I am glad you asked this question as I just purchased a 2100M laser jet printer from ebay with an extra tray...making that 3 trays total. I had to add teh third tray. I to want to know if it is possible to have it automatically print legal and letter instead of manually.
Does anyone know the answer to this question? I looked on my printer for those devices that Tony recommended in the other email about the 1300...I didn't see anything to change on my actuall printer and downloaded the pcl6 drivers. It still prints manually legal-letter.
Or does anyone have a printer they would recommend that will do that if this one will not?
TIA
Jackie
